Boy :bow: , am I glad I installed the Venom failsafe on my gas car! Took it out to play a little and fired it up, sat it down and warmed up a bit, then away I went. About 50 Yards away it was cooking and all of a sudden slamed on the brakes. Humm, what's up? Went to investigate and saw the failsafe blinking, indicating it was active. Shut everything down and back to truck. Upon investigation I found I had a broken cyrstal. Well, the failsafe worked and saved me a bunch of aggrivation. I will be putting one on all my gas R/Cs ASAP.
 
what failsafe should i install on my Storm RTR as i wouldnt want the aggrivation of taking it apart trying to find the problem.
 
Futaba, OFNA and Venom all make a VERY small failsafe now. With Venom probably being the most cost effective and Futaba being the most expensive. They all work fine. The ones I have field tested are as follows:

XTM
Futaba
MPI
OFNA
Venom

Right now, my preference is the Venom. Both because it has been flawless and cost competitive. The OFNA is my second choice for the same reasons.
 
I recently sent back my VFS for RMA and should get another one from them soon. They stated they found a problem in the 30% smaller failsafe. My failsafe stopped working properly after a few days of use in my vehicle and wouldn't let me use the throttle anymore. My horrible luck with R/C's lately. :nope:
 
I have always like the venom failsafes, and the new smaller ones they have look really good. I'm going to have to check those out.
 
I have the Futaba fail safe, a little expensive, I paid about $55 for it, but well worth it in my opinion. I also use the losi throttle return spring.
 
This was my first failsafe and I am glad I bought it. I have used throttle return springs but for the most part I have found them useless. I have not had any that were able to pull the servo back if it lost power. It would take one heck of a spring to do that and a very powerfull servo to be able to overcome the tension to work the throttle. I could be seeing something the wrong way here but a return spring never helped my RC10GT years ago when the crystal came out at full throttle ( gimme a break. I was new then). At that time about the only failsafe was the Futaba and it was outragous exspensive. I like the Venom now. Very small, simple setup, the blinking active light is nice and the cost was too bad, as R/C stuff goes, about $35
 
I use a losi throttle return spring, and it WILL pull the carb closed if I turn off my radio while holding the throttle open. I am using the stock steering servo on my throttle/brake. I did have to remove a few coils off the spring to make it have enough tension to close the barrel of the carb, but it does indeed work.
 
I use the Ofna Failsafe now and am very pleased....I tried the Venom but it would engage every time my batteries started to drain a bit. The Ofna seems to let me run a bit longer.

Some may say this is a bad thing....But I'd rather get as much run time as I can before having to recharge.
 
I use the Venom in both my cars and haven't had any problems. I know the Venom failsafe will engage if the batteries in the receiver dip below 4.8v.
 
I have a venom failsafe and return spring on my RS4 3. That's worked great. I tried the Venom and the XTM failsafes on my Savage and it didn't work very well. I use an Airtronics MX3 with a synthesized Novak receiver on the Savage. I ended up using the Dynamite failsafe and that works great for my Savage.

Yea this was the same fail safe I was planing to buy, however it was the same as the Ko-Propo unit that costed half the price of the Futaba, so of course I grabed the ko propo one with a quickness.:)
