fail safe question

ok so i bought a ofna fail safe for my hpi rs4 3 evo and i was wondering if i could run the battery pack to the failsafe and the red and black wires go to the reciever abd the white wire i wire to the servo and the reciver? just splice the white one in that way if the switch cuts off or something i will allways have power to the failsafe just wonderin
 
i not sure i fully understand but if you want to take the make the fail safe fail proof then snip out the switch and splice it up. but you should make sure you really want it hard wired on before you begin. i dont think the mod will hurt any thing, but if you do it keep in mind that leaveing the reciever pack pluged in may drain it.
 
i think you should just use it the way its intened for, spicing and altering it may just counter act its purpose
 
They work so that if a) some one else turns on a radio with the same channel and/or b) you receiver battery drains, the car doesn't got out of control. They are supposed to be in line to your throttle servo, that way if something does happen, it sets a hard brake on the throttle servo and the car doesn't go barrelling out of control down the track or your street. BEST $30 investment you can make for your Nitro vehicle - especially if you value keeping it all together. I have known several stories of people who did not run them and the result was a smashed up, chassis bent car. Then again, I have personally experienced races where new racers show up and do not realize the rules or check to make sure the frequency clip is not checked out before turning on their radio - hallarious thing is my truck stops and just sits on the track, while they are busy chasing their's through the pits or off the track. I don't run one of my vehicles without them - EVER!

cool, they sound like a good idea. I'll have a look at my LHS. Are there any better than others?
 
I use Venom, but I know several on the board use the OFNA. I've not heard of any problems with either of those. I think the OFNA is about $20 USD and the Venom runs about $25 USD. Either way it's the best $30 you can spend for you vehicle.
 
Ofna Failsafe

I have the Ofna Micro failsafe on all my nitros and just out of curiosity on the status of everyone else's LED on those who use the Ofna Micro Failsafe?

In other words, on the back of package for setting the failsafe, it says that if the LED light is flashing red, do not run the R/C, Low Battery.
Well my failsafe LED flashes red on all my nitros but I know the batteries are all charged and good.

Does everyone else's Ofna failsafe LED flash red when they turn it on??
Unless this is just a typo on the package that Ofna goofed on :shrug:

I know I set my failsafe properly because it works awesome but just curious about teh LED status.

I just got an ofna failsafe for my LST and it does the same flashing about every 3 seconds, but I know I just charged my battery pack and the trucks wheels will actually turn on carpet so that's fine, I run my truck with it blinking untill my trucks throttle and brakes become delayed even when it does this the failsafe doesn't kick in but thats when I Know it's time to charge my pack.
 
Do your self a double favor. Get a battery monitor. It's a row of LEDs that go from green down to yellow, then to red. That's the ONLY safe way of knowing how much power is in the reciever pack. If you radio batteries go down, and the car gets too far away to get the signal, that's when the failsafe kicks in. If your reciever pack runs down, it might not have enough power for the failsafe to engage the brakes.
 
Yes, you can use it on anything. You program it to drop the engine to idle and apply the brakes. It has nothing to do with the engine or motor, only the servos.
 
wHAT ABOUT bec?

I'm new with RC nitro world!
On the receiver it shows BEC (Battery Elimination Circuit), is it will do the same thing as "fail-safe"? How is it work?
I also notice the connector has red, black and yellow wires. "Red for +ve and Black for -ve", but what's that yellow wire for?
And I heard about the "reverse spring" for your throttle servo. Is it going to work?

I'll really appericate if someone can explain this to me.

I have the Ofna one and I love it. Of course if you put it on the steering servo before you realize the stupid reason it's not working, the results will be poor :ahem:

Anyways, after I corrected that, it works great.
