Looking to paint a new lid for my Jato. My idea was to paint the hood, roof and back deck black then fade the paint into a purple with a lime green tear going down the sides. The question (or questions) are this:
1 How hard is this for an inexperienced painter?
2 Is it possible to do with cans?

It doesn't sound to difficult but it also depends on what type(s) of maskants you'll be using. As long as you use a liquid mask and arent going to care about shading/shadowing than I dont see why you couldnt do it with rattlecans. Make sure its a lexan paint and you prep the body correctly first. Oh.... POST PICS!!!!!!

I just recently tried my first fade with rattlecans and I will give you a word of advice. If your starting at the back with black it doesn't take half as much black as you might think. I sprayed what I thought was a 50% coating of black and it turns out the only place that you can really see my fade is out toward the edges where I only had soemthing like 25% black to clear ratio. Further back where I had more black the blue just made it look black. If you get right up on the body you can see the blue mixed in but from a ft away it just looks black. So go sparingly with the black in the fading areas.

Also make sure you spray with the can in an upright position, make sure to mix the can very vigorously and even warm up the can to 70F or so (You can use a hairdryer or warm water to do this). Also spray at least 6 inch away from the body. All these things will help you get a fine mist and hopefully no large sputters from the can. The distance will also help you control how thin or thick your fading layers are.

my .02 from my previous experiement.
