Hi,
I bought a used Revo 3.3 in very clean condition. It would not start at first because I couldn't prime the engine. I took apart the carb and cleaned it. Then I got it started did some low speed driving around the driveway and put it away. When I went back to tune it after a week or so, it would start but didnt want to idle. If I gave it throttle, when I let go it seemed to "stick" and not idle down (wheels kept turning). Today she wouldnt start at all...again seem not to prime well.

I seem to have decent compression when I manually turn the fly wheel over. Needles are 4 out on HS and about 1.5 out on LS.

I do notice some leaking around the bottom of the plastic EZ Start cover...is this normal...or is this my issue?

Sounds like your rich on the hsn, and maybe lean on the lsn. Stock settings are 4 turns out on the hsn, 2 out on the lsn. I'd replace the glow plug, make sure the fuel is fresh and not traxxas, and tune it. Remember to watch your temps.
 
Have you changed the plug and fuel lines? Checked the clutch? Make sure you have an idle gap of about 1mm. For the lsn it goes flush with the needle housing, which may be 2 turns out, but it's easier to just set it flush or slighly out from flush. As for the leak it's ok to have a little, alot is bad. If you're having trouble priming then it's probably the idle. Or you can hold it wide open and blow into the tank through the pressure line. Watch and listen, you only want to get the fuel to the carb then stop or it will flood.
 
It's too oily. I switched to byrons about a year ago and noticed the difference immediately. Traxxas is the worst running fuel I have ever used.
 
That's interesting...the time I did run it and drive it around I was using Blue Thunder. Then I switched to Top Fuel because I read it was keeping temps cooler than Blue Thunder.
 
I think trx uses more oil to compensate for newbies over-leaning. All it really does is make a mess and guber up one way bearings. After re-reading your first post, you may have an air leak too. Every engine needs to be sealed; even brand new ones. Searching this site will yield a ton of good info about sealing a nitro engine.

If your backplate is worn enough to leak a noticable amount, then you may need a new backplate and starter shaft. However, an overly oily fuel will just get oil everywhere and make things appear worse than they are.

I'd also suggest changing fuels if possible. I've been running byrons a few years and really like it. I ran trinity MHP 20% for quite some time as well. It would be my second choice.

Others I've ran and don't really care for for one reason or another:
odonnels - too oily, smells better when burning though
traxxas - too oily
bluethunder - didn't run as consistent as others
Eliminator - too oily, ran ok though
 
Update..

Thanks for the replies. I took the engine out and tested it for air leaks. I didnt really find any...but I did hear some blow by on the glow plug so I tightened it up a bit more and it went away. I put it back together and primed it by blowing i the pressure line. I got it started tweaked the needles a bit and got it stable enough to idle and run down the drive way.

Now I need to take it out and run it hard enough to tune the settings. Hopefully it stays stable.
