Not exactly sure when this came out but they have never been available before, always backordered. The Chassis is called a conversion kit that converts an Associated B6.3D from a dirt chassis to a carpet chassis.
The Chassis kit from Exotek consists of an aluminum base plate with carbon fiber side rails. The chassis is also 3mm longer to match the B6.3 carpet kit.
Along with the 3mm you get three different battery mounting options and the chassis is 50 grams lighter.
To complete the conversion there is a lot to change besides the chassis.
Other modifications are a gear differential to replace the ball bearing differential.
Different shock oil and springs and tires are the obvious stuff.
Reducing the front caster and lowering the chassis produces a bit of bump steer because the ball joints rise above the steering rack. So the engineers at Associated made steering pivots that are +3 mm higher.
So after waiting awhile suddenly Amain had them up for sale and I had my local hobby shop order me the chassis kit. It’s about 30 dollars more than a stock chassis and comes with a battery hold down and metal servo mount.
And I just happened to be converting a B6.3D from dirt to carpet I figure I would give it a try.
Other upgrades include titanium steering and control rods.
I added metal parts that will help with reliability. I plan to race this car for 6 month in the 21.5 category.
Tekin 21.5 motor with RS pro ESC and a Protek 160 servo round out the electronics.
All the gears in the lay down trans are metal and the ceramic bearings make the whole drive train spin with very little resistance. I added 1000 wt oil to the gears. Just a couple drops to lube them with out making the drag like grease would.
So now I have my B6.3D all torn down after doing most of the carpet conversion. Now I just have to build it back up and see how it looks.
