I replaced the defunct switch and all is well in the world of Exchange!!! Life is good, and networking sucks!:smart:

Glad the switch worked....I was going to suggest the same thing. We went from a dlink switch to a 3-com [3Com SuperStack 3 Switch 3300 XM (3C16985B-US)] and it has aleviated a ton of weird problems with our servers.

Currently we are having the exact same problem that WDavid mentioned. When someone types in an alias it displays that message and takes a min to resolve. Happens both locally and from our remote offices connecting through a VPN.

That is a NETBIOS issue I think, if you are having name resolution problems. From the clients having problems resolving see if you can ping the name of the Exchange server and see if you can ping the IP of the Exchange server. If you can't ping the name, but can ping the number then I would look into NETBOIS and WINS config.

Sorry, when I say resolve I mean if I type 'Mike' into the To: field of an email and press TAB it displayes the "Outlook is requesting data from the MS Exchange server..." for a few seconds (and doesn't let you do anythign else until it then changes to "[email protected]".

"Network" name resolution is ok.

it was going bad, was just intemeitent until I starting playing with it this morning and then it failed all the way. I had to stop asking the "why" in the equation many years ago to keep my sanity.
