I had flipped my new maxx over a week or so ago and later noticed that the engine mount was cracked, in fact, broken all the way through near one of the screw holes. I decided to run it a little while longer, but had a ton of trouble starting it. After trying every possible idea, I just happened to notice that the yellow wire wasn't grounding my ex-start. I asked about where it was supposed to be attached to and was told that it should have been attached to a screw on the mount, but I couldn't see a missing screw. I thought it was all just a result of my dumb clumsyness, so I found a new mount on e-bay, and ended up getting it in like 2 days. So, tonight I went to change it out, and, when I removed my gas tank, I realized the root of the problem. I don't think Traxxas put the allen screws in the holes on the left (gas tank) side of the motor. I know it is possible that the shook out (i haven't used thread lock), but when I checked the screws on the right side, they weren't even finger tight.
Keep in miond that I have only had my maxx since christmas, and that I've only run about 3 tanks since break in.

Do you guys think it was vibration or factory error?

If it is Traxxas's fault, I shoudl at least ask them to give me a free mount and 2 screws, right?
your judgement please
:hammer:

When you get any RTR vehicle, the first thing you do should be checking each and every screw on the entire vehicle. I believe it states this in the manual.

When u buy RTR, it's a safe rule to make sure all the screws are tightened and always re-tighten the screws after u run it. And make sure to use blue loctite so secure them better.

I have flipped and busted my engine mount once. But they are correct use thread lock and it is always good to go over every screw around the engine after every run even if every thing seems fine.

check those screws EVERY time you run.....your engine turns around 30,000 RPMs on avg......that creates lots of vibrations......

do you guys honestly take off your gas tank and check those inside screws every time? Am I missing something here? I am going tonight to buy a gallon of thread lock, and I'll try to start checking them everytime.

I honestly appreciate everyone's help, but I guess sometimes we have to learn from our own mistakes.

Thats the way it's done in this hobby. Sometimes you just have to learn from the school of hard knocks.

as stupid as its sounds...I went through 3 gas tanks and 3 motor mounts before I realized that my shocks where at fault. I never check them and bitch that traxxass made bad parts or something and finally someone mentioned to me to check my shocks. the truck wasn't very oldat the time so it never occured to me that the shocks where....oh...just about empty. Since then I have had just about no problems w/the mounts. Yes blue locktite is your friend in this hobby.
