i was just out fooling with my supernitro in the street. and i hit a bump or pebble or seomthign and the pipe fell off, so i was running open header ... i expected the engine to shut down from no fuel pressure, but it didnt. it ran through the whole rest of the tank like that (about 3/4 of a tank) ... it was sooooooo loud , but fast and cool ... I'm glad i got my fantom ,, it runs no matter what . great engine . ... for the next project, i think I'm going to run a fantom .18 in a 1/10 scale pro stock car and run open header with it ... ill just bend the header up through the top of the body or something so it looks real ...

while an engine will run without a pipe, it isnt really that good for it. u eliminate the backrpressure, just like u would in a car. not only does this create a large amount of power loss, but it suck down fuel. and without the pressure line, u run the risk of getting bubbles in the fuel line and over leaning the engine at full throttle.

yes - i have tried it too, it does sound good, but not worth it.

What Nitro said is all correct, but what also happens is because you dont have fuel pressure, you are running the car super lean. that is why you got the increase in performance. A good way to ruin your engine. I would check it out. I've seen engine blow while driving the car back after the pipe came off.

If anyone's wondering, the pipe doesn't even need to be all the way off, my GT-4 was way faster with the pipe only loose, but even though it was fun, I decided not to damage my engine.

mjime, i have a question for you, I was wondering if you ever had this problem with your GT-4: My full 1.25 horsepower aren't enough to move the wheels, they seem to have some kind of drivetrain drag, I can turn the wheel manually but it's much more difficult than normally. Do you know what the problem could be?

Check to see if ther is a rock on the clutch bell. Also check if there is a rock causing the breaks to enguage. Check the belts and see if anything is binding or making it hard for the shafts to turn. I had a similar prob and it was a rock in the wheel rubbing against the hub and it wouldnt come out.

man - i just looked it up on yokomo's website, and sure enough it states it is 1.25hp. I duno though, i would like to see a non-biased test on it, i am having a hard time believing that a yokomo engine has more horsepower than an OS CV-r, TR, Mugen MT, or any of ther other "race" engines.

Thanks for the help, and that seems like a reasonable reason, if you see where i drive my car. My driveway is probably the worst place to run a TC, but I have nowhere else, and at least its long and fairly straight. But a rock definitely seems like a good cause, except I've taken out my engine, and It's not in the clutch bell, but i think there must be a rock dragging on one of the belts.

And NitroAddict, it may be a high rating, but it makes it so that i would feel strange to buy an engine that supposedly has less power, although the O.S. might be my next engine.

HP ratings are all show IMO. Just to sell engines. I ignore that totally. There may be some validity to that rating, but they are all just claims. Thats why I like RB so much. They dont try to sell by saying that their mills have this much HP at This RPM, but what they do is rate their output by compairing them to their other engines. Dont believe the Hype. Same with the claim that the car can do this much or that much out of the box. Its all for sales. Some cars may do that in ideal conditions, but most of the time they will do a lot less.

oops :jet:

as far as hp ratings, i also think they are all for show ... i go by word of mouth and what i can see ...

I would go by what I see, but they tore down the track that was near my house so I have no place to see which engines are the best.

Running without the pipe causeing there to be no back presure to seel the engine port when it throws fuel in. It also causes no back pressure to the tank which leans it even more. Running with out a pipe is loud, I know, I've ran for a minute without one but it only ruins the engine.

it is cool to have a little more power without the rstriction of the pipe but in the long run the engine just gets ruined. Don't do it unless you have some seriuos cash to flash. If so why don't you flash some my wat:preachin: :preachin:
