What are the advantaes of upgrading your esc? [sorry 'bout the newbie question this is my first electric.]

to be able to run a lower turn (faster) motor, esc's are rated by the lowest turn moter they can handle.

or maybe to be able to run more battery (voltage)

A nice ESC can do a lot of things, Depending on which one they can have different motor limits, run more cells, different throttle profiles, some can run Lipos, Some are programable, some are waterproof. It all depends on what you want to do.

So... If I want to put one in my submarine, that can go fast and store memory for up to 16 different people, which one would i go with?

LOL, Sorry, just had to ask to see if someone really came up with an answer.

How many cells can you run in a x-l5?

humm 12 t limit and 15 turn limit dose that mean it can handle a 19 turn? I am new to electric sorry for the dumb question

stay away from the traxxas xl5 or xl10. Go to a duratrax 8t esc or even a 12t esc. The traxxas fry very easy. I have fried 3 my friend 5 and his dad 2.

As the number of turns increases in a motor, the amp draw decreases. So a 12T limit ESC can handle a 19T motor, but not an 8T motor.
