Been running my X SS and havent been able to get good temps seems no matter how hard i run i can't get over 180 even with the head wrapped with a old rag only gets up to 215. I've tried leaning it to raise them a bit, but when i do theres not a whole lot of smoke and i feel it is too lean when i do lean it. Right now where it is set is about 1 or maybe 1 1/4 turn lean from factory setting on high end and 1/8 lean on low are these 4.6s just cold blooded? I'm using a Traxxas hot glow plug and O'donnell's 20% race fuel... I just got done breaking in the engine with 2 quarts of O'donnell's 20% RTR fuel with a rag around the head and had temps between 185-210 for break but I had to change to the race fuel because my lhs didnt have it in stock. Guess I'm just scared about burning up a new engine. Should i just go for it and let her rip (lean it out) or hold back and run acouple more tanks to see if it will come around. Also do the all synthetic oiled fuels give out less smoke than the castrol/synthetic mixs? ...... Oh yeah, I didnt touch a needle during break in until the third tank so i could give it 1/2 to 3/4 throttle with out it dieing and that was a 1/8 turn lean adjustment

I would still take it easy on her for another quart or so....but feel free to slowly start to lean it out and make it come alive. Just don't hammer on the throttle until she is fully ready.

make sure the head is tight. my friend had a brand new trx 3.3 that did the same thing. broke a rod 2nd day he had it.
