Engine Temp???

I am running my first tank of fuel during the break in and am worried that its getting to hot. Where do I hit the engine with a temp gun. On the cooling head or the main body of the engine?? Also has anyone used a temp gun from sears or Radio Shack and do they work well?

i own a raytek gun, but have used the radio shack one before - it gets pretty close, close enough. shoot the temp at the glow plug. during breakin - the temp should be somewhere between 190degrees and 240degrees. break in running will require no full throttle passes, so u should be running quite cool.

I have a Craftsman and it works reasonably well, considering it was half the cost of the Raytek. You just need to get close to the engine or the reading feild width gets too large.

I have to say if the Craftsman is only $59.00 it's worth it. If it breaks,you can find a Sears or Craftsman store within 15 miles from where you live. Craftsman backs there product unlike Snap On or most other manufacturers.

I have the radio shack version and we use the raytek for Go-Kart racing and they are within 1 degree of each other or right on. During break-in anything higher than 240 is to hot, fatten er up on the lsn about an 1/8 of a turn (in). The HSN should not come into play during break in beacause you should never really reach high RPM's.

I've got the Radio Shack, and a couple of buddies of mine have the Raytek.....they're pretty consistent with each other, only being off about 1/2 of a degree. The Radio Shack cost $49 and you can get the Raytek for around $75. There's those new temp readers out now that are very similar to the radio shack, but actually a bit smaller. I'm not sure of the brand name, but they're only like $37...a kick ass deal and that makes a temp gun more affordable for everyone who runs nitro r/c.
