I bought my grandson a Conquistador for Xmas that has a .18 Toki Engine. I bought myself a REVO after messing with a pull start and all the problems we've had. Their might be a better site for this question but I'm hoping the Symptoms are applicable to all nitro engines.
First Issue: He busted the composite muffler and all they had was a traxxas aluminum muffler (for a Rustler I think) that appeared pretty close so I bought that. Big mistake....I ended up having to drill a couple holes out of the baffle to get the car to run. I think I had too much back pressure and was flooding the engine. I can start the truck now and runs good for awhile.
Current Issue: When I start the engine cold...it starts right up and seems like it's going to run great. As soon as the engine gets hot, it stalls. The temp readings I've taken right after it stalls have been 230 - 240 so it;s not like it's overheated. I've pulled the glow plug after it stalls and flipped it over poulling the rip cord....it's not flooded. Pulling vigorously on the rip cord, a couple of times I've been able to get it started when the engine was still warm. For the most part though, I have to wait until the engine cools down, reprime it and it will start right up...usually the first pull. As soon as the engine gets hot again....it stalls.
I'm really at my wits end on what's going on. Has anyone experienced such problems with their engines? I can't tell you much about the glow plug... I have whatever the hobby shop gave me. Should I be running a hotter glow plug maybe??? Any help / advise / wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Don't tell me to buy another traxxas....I already know that solution. I'm trying to use this as an opportunity to learn about these nitro engines. If I could ever get it to run as nice as my 3.3, I'd be a real happy man. I really don't have that expectation though.
Anyways...Thanks in advance for your anticipated help.
