I bought my grandson a Conquistador for Xmas that has a .18 Toki Engine. I bought myself a REVO after messing with a pull start and all the problems we've had. Their might be a better site for this question but I'm hoping the Symptoms are applicable to all nitro engines.

First Issue: He busted the composite muffler and all they had was a traxxas aluminum muffler (for a Rustler I think) that appeared pretty close so I bought that. Big mistake....I ended up having to drill a couple holes out of the baffle to get the car to run. I think I had too much back pressure and was flooding the engine. I can start the truck now and runs good for awhile.

Current Issue: When I start the engine cold...it starts right up and seems like it's going to run great. As soon as the engine gets hot, it stalls. The temp readings I've taken right after it stalls have been 230 - 240 so it;s not like it's overheated. I've pulled the glow plug after it stalls and flipped it over poulling the rip cord....it's not flooded. Pulling vigorously on the rip cord, a couple of times I've been able to get it started when the engine was still warm. For the most part though, I have to wait until the engine cools down, reprime it and it will start right up...usually the first pull. As soon as the engine gets hot again....it stalls.

I'm really at my wits end on what's going on. Has anyone experienced such problems with their engines? I can't tell you much about the glow plug... I have whatever the hobby shop gave me. Should I be running a hotter glow plug maybe??? Any help / advise / wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Don't tell me to buy another traxxas....I already know that solution. I'm trying to use this as an opportunity to learn about these nitro engines. If I could ever get it to run as nice as my 3.3, I'd be a real happy man. I really don't have that expectation though.

Anyways...Thanks in advance for your anticipated help.

Well, i remember i had a a buggy with almost same problems and man oh man, i hated it. So i switched to savage and NEVER HAD 1 ENGINE PROBLEM YET! Umm..
If you got it up to 240, by not really doing anything i would say make it richer.

Firstly how does it take off from a dead stop? Does is bog or make a lumpy sound like it doesnnt wanna go?

Secondly, when your running it and driving down the road, is there a trail of smoke coming out of the exhaust? And is there any high pitched sounds like REALLY high pitched?

You might have an airleak. Well u said u had drilled holes.. That might be ur problem..

Seems to take off OK from a dead stop. I have the low speed throttle adjusted just short of reving the rpm's up.
Yes, I do see some smoke out of the exhaust / no high pitched sounds.
Just bogs down and stalls when it get's hot....but it doesn't appear to be flooded. I let it coll down and it starts right up again.

Update: I started taking the engine apart and found the threads were almost completely stripped in the part called a "Burn Room". This part sits directly beneath the cooling tower and the glow plug screws into it. The glow plug was holding bu no more than one thread so how it stayed in there I'll never know...but I suspect this might be the issue.

My current issue is finding another one of these parts. I sent an email to RCtoyhouse but I don't believe they have the individual engine parts. Does anyone have any idea where I might be able to find one. I've had no luch searching the net.

The book says it's a .18 Toki engine but it says Acme Racing 18 on the engine itself. With the RC truck came an "S18 Exploded View & Parts List". On that list, it's called a Burn Room and it's Item # 31133.

Does anyone by chance have a conquistador that they perhaps junked for some reason and would be willing to sell this part? I'm just trying avoid having to but a new engine for what I'd guess to be a $2.00 part.

Here's a link to the actual truck I have... http://www.rctoyhouse.com/gas/rc_nitro_truck_acmetw.html

Thanks Neobart...I sent them an email to see if they might have the part. The link you left is for the cylinder head. Unless this piece comes with it, what I need is the part that sits beneath the cylinder head called a Burn Room. I've seen other references to it as the glow plug plate.....but the glow plug screws into this piece and it's actually held in place by the cylinder head. I'm guessing my best bet at the moment appears to find someone that has junked one. Is there a good / better place / forum on the net to ask if anyone has this.

On some Toki and Team infinity engines those two parts are integrated, something I should have pointed out earlier.

Turns out that RC Toy House (http://www.rctoyhouse.com), the online store I bought this truck from were good enough to check to see what they had and found a faulty engine lying around. I was able to get it for the price of the pull start, which is someting I needed as well.....and of course has this Burn Room part that I need. They also do not carry the indiviual engine parts, other than the carb or pull start so I lucked out. My thumbs up to RC Toy House for looking to see what they actually had lying around vs just what their internet store showed for parts.

Thanks for everyone's help!
