I just got a 3.3 for my old tmaxx and am trying to break it in. Problem? the engine runs and the truck just sits there and jerks like it wants to go forward. if i really give it throttle it will creep forward. I got new batts and servos as well, and i took it to my LHS and they checked my tranny and gears. the gears were fine as were the clutch shoes. it worked for a minute and now back to the same old song. HELP!!!!

I know that LHS said the Clutch was ok... but it still sounds to me like you have a clutch issue. If you have checked the tranny gears, and made sure your Spur and Clutch bell were meshed correctly than there is not much else to look at. The one shot in the dark would be to check to make sure your diffs are not reversed on one end..... meaning the gearing is backwards in one. They would be playing tug of war so to speak, but if you have never changed your diffs out it probably is not the issue. I would check you spur and clutch set up again.

Are you just barely giving it throttle? If you still have reverse, there is a clutch in the transmission than will make it jerk when it is not being given a lot of throttle. I'm assuming that you are trying to break it in? I thought the same thing when I got my t-maxx. Just one of those things that makes a t-maxx unique... And expensive.

Sounds to me like the slipper is loose. I'd try tightening the slipper clutch and giving it a shot.

^^What he said^^

Might also be a loose flywheel. If you put the old flywheel/clutch/bell assembly from your old engine on the new one, you may have not completely tightened the clutch nut.

Mr T

i am gonna get a lighter flywheel and a 3-shoe clutch as well as spur/cb. what i want from this truck is speed. what is ideal for the 3.3 as far as the gears go?

but if i was in need of servicing any of them and the engine was out it may be the best time to do it. at least then it would just be done instead of waiting and may in turn solve my lil problem.

Well then, good luck. If you're fortunate enough to have that kind of money laying around, then by all means, replace everything and hope it works.

Personally, I'd rather figure out what is causing the problem, but then again, I'm kind of stupid that way.

Well the clutch shoes are still in very good shape, i changed the slipper pads, and tightened my spur gear up and backed it off a quarter turn. Spur n cb are in near perfect shape and my bud at the lhs said the tranny is in great shape. I got it to run for a while today and when i brought it back in off the street it started to act up again on my way back in. I am not sure where to start now.

Try getting rid of the reverse if you don't need it. T-Maxx reverse has always been a pain for me. That'll probably solve your problem. If not, you can always put it back.

How much is the LHS charging to "look" at it? It is probably as simple as ditching reverse for a forward only kit.

naw he doesn't charge me if he looks at it.. they just opened up my tranny cuz I never had before. I tried putting it reverse by hand and it did nothing.

Got it running and now I am eating spur gears. I found my robinson 72t metal spur. Now for speed what size cb do i need? and found integy light flywheel and 3 shoe clutch for 13bucks. outta be here soon. SOOO Xcited!!

Be careful with those steel spurs. They will eat up clutch bells if you do not get hardend steel ones too. It should not, under normal running conditions, eat the plastic spurs. You just need to set the mesh properly.

and found integy light flywheel and 3 shoe clutch for 13bucks

No offense to you at all, but there's a reason you found these for only $13.00. I suggest you get another flywheel and clutch set-up to keep on hand because Integy isn't really known for making quality parts, just quality looking parts.

Hate to take the wind from your sails, my man, but I wouldn't buy from Integy if I had The Clap and they were the only ones with penicillin!

RPM, Robinson Racing, Lunsford, MIP to name a few. Additionally, Traxxas does make performance parts which are actually very good, so you may want to look into those.

78, I started a project build thread for a T-Maxx project you may want to check-in on from time-to-time because I'm listing parts I am using and, more importantly, asking for suggestions on specific components. https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44147

May help in deciding on upgrades for your rig.
