my wasp28 has been broken in with 6 tanks of hpi 20% nitro fuel following the directions. it isnt supposed to run over 250f on the temp. when I'm running in first gear the engine runs hot (around 265f) then when i get up to second or third gear it runs about 240-250f. how do i fix this & what do i adjust to fix the engine where is stays close to the 250 range. dont know if the tires will have affected the engine but I'm running 40 size tires now instead of stock. how many rounds open should the low needle & high needle be from closed ? next thing what would be the best tuned pipe for the wasp28 for both speed & performance ? I'm still using the stock pipe that was on the hpi25 stock engine. also what is the best air filter for the wasp28 ? only 3 parts on my savage is still stock (pipe, air filter & arms) and i plan on leaving the arms stock.

Have you tried to return the needles to factory? How does she run? Have you done a pinch test on the HSN? After running it to get the temps to operating temps, pinch the fuel line as close to the HSN nipple. If it dies almost immediately like less than 3 seconds the HSN is too lean. If it sputters for more than 5-7 seconds its a good chance the HSN is to fat or rich. Once that is solved go to the LSN and tune for acceleration. Always do needle adjustments one at a time and then run it, temp it and judge if you can do more or less.

NOW.....If all this is OK then read below...

Have you tried to check for air leaks on the fuel system? Check the tank, then lines, fuel filter if you got one and then go to the engine. A common place for leaks to happen is right at the glow plug washer. IF the washer is worn replace it. If that is all good then go to the carb and backplate. Seal those babies up with RTV silicone. Do a search on how... its been discussed many times. IF you STILL have problems start looking to the assembly of the needles.

i have done the pinch test on the low end. it runs for just about 5 seconds before it dies on the test. low needle is set at 6.25 rnds open. the carb & backplate has been sealed with a bead of rtv, all o-rings replaced with new ones. there is no plug washer on a turbo plug which the wasp uses and the fuel tank & lines are new which have been all pressure tested for any possible air leaks. still the engine runs hot only when i run it at low speeds. I'm running a medium plug but maybe need to change to a cold or hot ?
