I start my engine from cold nd it takes about 5 minutes to warm up before the truck will move properly. When it gets going it seems to ge faster and faster then I bring it in to refuel when its empty. Then it just overheats and dies. Whats going on? my main needle is about 3 turns out with lots of smoke coming out of the exhaust.

You said it takes 5 minutes before it will go properly. By that do you mean, if you give it gas, it hesitates, wants to die and then just goes no where?

If so, you're running it too rich. Basically, when you hit the throttle, the LSN backs away from the spray bar and the carb just dumps massive amounts of fuel into the engine. All that fuel smothers the glow plug and it wants to die.

Turn the hsn clockwise 1/8th of a turn. Check if the truck will go. If it doesn't, turn it another 1/8th of a turn. Repeat until the truck runs and you can warm it up for the tuning process.

Your description is kind of vague hope this helps.

renegade - is this regarding the Rossi engine u just got? answer back - as i think i know the problem

Not trying to be mean but you really need to give people specifics on your problem. With a general explanation such as yours its is real easy for even an experienced tuner to give you the wrong diagnoses. It would of been better if you would have said something like this: I have X engine and I am using X glow plug. It is X degrees outside. I am running X fuel. With this information you would probably have recieved an answer. If we knew the engine type then we could actually tell you if 3 turns out on your HSP is lean or rich. It really sounds like your lean and overheating or your idel is high enough when you start it but after the engine actually gets to operating temps the idle is to low to keep it running.

i had a similar problem with my rossi, renegade. thanks for the pm. the problem was traced to 2 sources:
1. the instuctions are incorrect pretaining to the LSN. My engine would start but then slowly run faster and faster and move while at idle. also would die and not restart once it got hot. I had to richen the LSN almost 2 complete turns before i fixed the problem. Start riching out the LSN 1/32 of a turn at a time, and driving the car AT LEAST 1 MINUTE before adjusting it again. I know this sounds like a HSN problem, but it isnt, it relates to the LSN on this engine.
2. The other problem i noticed, was that the the clutch that comes with the NTC3 was too soft and would engage at idle. The rossi likes to idle a little bit higher than most engines, and therefore needs either tighter clutch springs, or shaved shoes. I chose to shave the clutch shoes approx 1/8 of an inch. Not only did this allow the car to idle smoothly, but it gave it more punch off the line. I hope these remedy your situation, as after about 2 days of trying everything else, these two solutions solved my problem.

LSN settings

Can you give me a base LSN setting CCWiseout on your carb? I have a slide carb if that helps.
Thanks

renegade - i am at work right now, and do not recall off the top of my head. i do not want to give you the wrong info. Just start from the factory setting recommended in the manual, and start backing it out from there. remember - 1/32 of a turn at a time! and run for a while in between. it will take a while.

LSN settings

No Problem, mail them to me whenever you can. Its 14:40 here I am leaving work at 15:30 to go see what I can do tuning my engine. Been at work since 06:30.
