I'm new to the rc nitro scene and I've had my Savage for about 3 weeks now. I've run just about a gallon of nitro through my truck and the engine seems to get stronger every day.

Today I was out for my "necessary" after work thrash and after about 45 minutes of playing around my truck wouldn't engage in gear. The engine would rev and if I gave it a little gas it would try to move a little, but that was it. I did accidentally splash through some water (body was totally wet, but nothing serious) about 15-20 min before the truck stopped moving. Have I burned out my clutch or is there something else wrong with it? If it is the clutch does anyone have any suggestions for heavy duty replacements?

Any info you can share will be greatly appreciated so I can get back to my "necessary" after-work therapy.

MIP Racing clutches are AWESOME! :) If I do say so myself.. Check the clutch, and spur gear... If it "tried" to move then most likely it's nothing expensive. Clean off the clutch and stuff and give 'er another try, then see what happens. :) Hope it helps.

Also check the engine for movement.. It's possible. If it moves the clutch bell away from the spur gear, that could cause that :) Make sure they mesh together well.

Good luck, AoD :)

Thanks AoD. I'll give those a try.

This may be a silly question, but does clutch work require a lot of disassembly of the engine? So far the only thing I've had to replace is the steering block. (thank goodness they put extras in the box)
Who would've thought that wooden stake was so tough?

Well, it's basically an e-clip and some bearings. The manual should show how much it would take. I personally haven't worked on the savage, but you may have to dismount the motor to get the clutch bell off. After that, make sure everything goes back together clean and have a nice mesh from the clutch bell to the spur gear, if you don't, the clutch bell or spur gear may get destroyed.

Just remember something, first, ask the the people at the local hobby shop if they can help you if you get stuck somewhere. And also, things come apart alot easier than they go back together, well usually.

Read the manual, and then check with the local shop. After you feel you have the confidence and knowledge to do the job, the rest is an adventure. :) That's what this hobby is, working on the vehicle, and watching your workmanship do some awesome things. :) Makes you proud of yourself lol

Good luck, AoD

Thanks Skela,

I'd much rather go that route than replace the clutch. I didn't think I was working the truck THAT hard.

I'll give cleaning those bearings a try and let you guys know how it worked out. If it doesn't work, I guess I'm of too my LHS again. I spend a lot of my spare time there. I think my fiance is getting jealous.
