Engine Recommendation

Looking for a recommendation for a NTC3 factory team kit.

I don't have plans to race right now, and I'm a total noob right now.

Looking for something that will provide decent power (enough to have fun with) but something forgiving enough for a now-novice.

Also, something durable that I won't have to replace after 10 runs.

What's your budget? I can make recomendations once that is established. Also, do you want pull start? Nonpull?

Nova has .12's all the way from 100-300+.

I would reccomend a nova engine.... (Novarossi, Top, Rex)

well, I believe the NTC3 factory team is setup for non-pull type engines.

Hmm. I'd say I'd max the engine budget at around $150.

Remember, the switch from pull to nonpull (and vice versa) is as simple as engine mounts and flywheel swap. A pullstart engine can be used on a starter box with no mods. ENOUGH SAID ... for the price you're looking at and for ease of tuning, I would suggest the OS .12tr. Great engine with lot's of pull and easy to tune and keep that tune. If you want to spend about $60-$70 extra, there's the Sirio .12 Evo3 and RB V12 3port for about $220.

ahh, so you're saying I can convert the chassis of the ntc3 to accept a pull start engine, simply by changing engine mounts and the flywheel.

where would I find the engine mounts and flywheel for the conversion?

p/n 2323=pullstart plywheel
p/n 2322=nonpull
p/n 2340 = pull start engine mounts
p/n 2341 = nonpull engine mounts.

That's all you need. Nothing concerning the chassis needs to be addressed. The chassis is a uniform design.

Diver, after some further research, the Sirio EVO 3 is known for airleaks.

It is almost expected to have air leaks with the engine right out of the box.

I'd get the RB V12 if your in the $220 range.

That is true. I even had to seal my Sirio Kanai Evo2 engine for my buggy. It was straight out of the box. It seems that sirio's can be hit or miss. I guess it's because of the composite carb.

I just checked out the OS .12tr and it's a non-pull start engine. For simplicity sake, I was thinking of going with a pull start.

i would go for a pullstarter first also. Starter boxes are heavy. Just learn the proper way to pullstart and you won't break it. I would go for a mild .15 OS and a Nova based engine. That OS12tr should come in a PS version if I am not mistaken. You want soemthing reliable and easy to tune at first. Most times the higher performance it is a little harder to tune (that is not always the case though). You will need to learn to drive and a race engine is not a good one to learn on. You will blow your car into a million pieces the first curb you hit at WOT (wide open throttle).
