Alright, 2 questions.
First, any tips or ideas on how to remove the flywheel from the shaft? Mine will not come off.
Second question, or suggestions, I have a stripped allen (actually 2 of them) in the head of my v01b. Any suggestions on how to get it out?
Thanks

1. Go to AutoZone or any other big auto parts store and buy a 'Battery Terminal Puller'. They are about $ 2.50. This will get ANY flywheel off.

2. What type of allen wrenches are you using? If they are not drill blank based, take it to your LHS and have them use a set of theirs to try and get them out. Might work. Otherwise you will have to drill the heads of the screws off. Nice part is, once you drill the heads off and remove the cooling head itself, there will be enough left to use pliers to remove the rest of the screw.

Your options are pretty limited on the head screws. Good drivers will prevent stripping in the future.

Good to see you back around and in action. Its been a while!

A thought on helping ease that flywheel off.

Place the entire engine in the freezer for about an hour (let it get the metal down to freezing level). This will cause the metal to contract or shrink (just a smidge). Then you should be able to ease the flywheel off. If the shaft and flywheel are of dissimilar metals (ie steel and aluminum) then this will work even better as aluminum "shrinks" more than steel. This will cause the hole that the shaft goes through on the flywheel to get a little larger, and the shaft to get a little smaller as the metals compress upon themselves allowing the flywheel to be removed.

Call it a physics thing.

The battery terminal puller is a good idea. If you don't happen to have one, or you don't have the time to freeze your engine you can always tap the flywheel off. Grasp the engine frimly in one hand, holding it so you have good access to the backside of the flywheel. Then take the end of a wood hammer handle or the end of a large plastic handled screwdriver and give the flywheel a few solid taps from the back. It should pop right off.

Çh®i§tiªñ just about covered the head bolt issue. One other thing you might try is wrapping a thin piece of paper around the end of your wrench. This might give it just enough bite to break the screws loose. If not whip out the drill.

Thanks for the reply guys. I purchased this engine from someone else, come to find out that the screws are stripped. Oh well.

Yep, it's been awhile Chris. Hopefully I will have a little more time to browse around on here. Glad to see the good guys are still around.

Let me know how you make out and whether or not you get the terminal puller. Killer tool for 2 bucks!

Cheers!

Well, I took the dremel to head bolts and got the head off easily. Plan on going by AutoZone tomorrow after work to pick up the terminal puller. Thanks again.

The battery terminal puller should be in every nitro RC'ers tackle box. What a great investment at $3. Slapped it on, gave the flywheel a little tap, and voila, the flywheel popped off. Thanks for the tip.
