I know you see a lot of these so i had to add one more to the collection. My stock savage motor is giving me crap. Just got it tunend with a temp gun(thing flies). Anyways now when i start it unless i give some gass and make it shoot off it stalls. Any recomendations appreciated!

CHEERS

Is it spitting a lot of fuel?
Also, you should never "tune" with a temp gun. Tune by ear, and make sure its not too hot with a temp gun.
You will have to retune your mill almost daily if the weather changes from day to day.
If it was cool yesterday, and it was running great, and it's hot tomorrow, you'll have to retune.

No not spitting a lot of fuel. I tuned the hsn only. Dont know how to tune lsn properly. I think the lsn is the prob.

Try pinching your fuel line about 2 inches from the carb when it's idling. It should rev up in 2-3 seconds and die or almost die in 4-5 seconds. If it takes longer for either of these symptons, your a bit rich on the low. It it revs up and dies really quick, your too lean.

this is a very good point to remember, alot of guys are under the misconception that you should tune your engine to run at a specific temp reading.ratzorc worded it perfectly.

MAKE SHURE THERE IS SMOKE COMING OUT DONT WANT TO LEAN IT TO MUCH TRY TO KEEP IT TO WERE YOU CAN GET IT TO MAX RPM OUT FASTER!!

When i break the car and after give full acelaration i have smoke ...what screw in the carb i shoud tune...

tHNKS

You want plenty of blue samoke. If your are only getting smoke at wot then richen your lsn.

For most engines, you should have some smoke at all times. You should notice a lot on hard accelleration and it will dwindle some while sitting and after prolonged high speed running. But, there should always be visible smoke.

Hi newbie here also. Which one is the lsn?? Is it the one that sticks up that you can turn with your fingers, the screw sticking out next to that, or the screw with the servo on it attached to the engine? and if there is no steady smoke which way do you turn the lsn???

oops n/m got it explained maybe i will run longer than 3 mins now!

Jerry the screw with the linkage attached to it is in fact the low speed needle. Which way you turn it will depend on how it is running. A good starting point is flush with the bolt or boot that holds it on. Just remember in most cases turning out so that you get more screw head sticking out will make the car have more fuel (rich), turning in towards the carb body so the screw head disappears so to speak will give it less fuel (lean). Hope that helps

thanks newnitrofan that was a lot of help. Just one more question. Should there be smoke when the car is just sitting? If so do you make the car richer or leaner to give it smoke? and do you mess with anything else when you mess with the lsn? like the idle screw or hsn? if the lsn controls lean and rich what purpose does the hsn play...i guess that was 3 questions! lol sorry just having little luck with both my engines

Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks.

Ricker gives more smoke. I believe the lsn is for take off and hsn is for high speed. You might have to adjust (sp) your idle depending on how lean or rich you make it. I have my idle speed @ 1/16 gap when idle per my manual (sp)

Your high speed needle setting will affect the low speed needle. Normally, you run the low speed pretty rich, and adjust your high speed needle so it will run wide open without gurgling and give good smoke. Once your content with your high speed needle, then you adjust the low speed. Low speed adjustments affect the engine from idle to about 1/4-1/3 throttle. Mostly it's for take off. Once you get the low speed set, you can adjust your idle to a lower idle or whatever you like.

Just remember, any change on the high speed needle always affects the low speed needle. Normally, if you lean the high, you should richen the low.
