Just got a 1/8th scale Truggy with an SH .28 on it, the guy I got it from says the engine was shot and wouldn't run. Well even being a complete noob with nitro RC I got it running, now here is the problem, it will run for about 30 seconds and then die, if I hold the throttle open even the slightest bit it will stay running for as long as I hold it... what does this mean?

It means you have to raise the idle.

That is what I thought but I am still a noob when it comes to these little engines. I am actually going to tear down this engine tomorrow and seal it and clean the carb because I think this guy tried to run it without the air filter on. How would I know if this engine was broken in properly?
Also do you guys know of a really good and thorough engine tuning guide or video on youtube. I would greatly appreciate either one. Thank you.

Make sure you're using the fuel and glow plug that SH recommends to get you started. Then you can change things up later (if you wish) once you're familiar with the engine.
