Engine is shorting out glow plugs

Help. Please help.

My engine is shorting out glows plugs. When i put in a new glow plug, the engine would just short it out and blow it. I went thru three glows plug in one night. Before i would put the glow plug in, i would take it and i get a beautiful orange glow. the engine would run some then it would blow, (in 2 minutes) It seems as if then engine would fire up briefly and then blow the glow plug.

Engine 1. os .18 in in a yokomo gt4. This engine run good for over 1 year. On this night it suddenly stopped. I check it, and it blow three glow plugs.

Engine 2 Mach .26 in and XTM XLB 1/7 monster buggy. I do not run it because constantly blow glow plugs. It starts beliefly then it blows.

Please tell me the type of things which well make a glow plug short?
also what to do to prevent it?
 
I think you need to check the tune on your engine, your either too rich or too lean, both can eat up plugs.
 
what plugs are you using and what does the base look like when you take it out? If it's shiney your too lean if it's a oily then your too fat.
 
Is the washer necessary to run the engine, because on my car, I don't think that the plug came with a washer. It runs fine, or at least it doesn't ever do anything bad that could indicate a problem with the plug. The plug is nice and healthy,though a little wet from how rich I run the engine. I'm going to tune it better today after I get out from school.
 
Turbo plugs(which are tapered at the end) don't need washers. Std. plugs do. Are the filament pushed up in to the plug. If so, it sounds like to much compression.
 
Who, me or the other guy? My plug is fine as far as I can tell, even though I've been running it without a washer probably since I got it. Granted, the engine is evil to tune, but I doubt that once I get it tuned right it'll stay that way (hard to tune, I mean).
 
Cupooterlovr, Is the plug tapered at the tip or is it flat at the tip?

Not running with a washer is dangerous if running a standard plug. It is required to get the proper shimming and a good seal. Your plug could be running dangerously close to the piston. Also, not running a washer will increase compression since more of the plug is in the combustion chamber.

Just a hunch, is your exhaust outlet clean, as in when you start your car on the start or pull cord you feel pressure from the exhaust outlet or not? If not check and make sure there is nothing clogged in there.

Two, make sure your needles are clean the quickest way to determine a clean needle is just to try and turn the LSN or HSN needle either direction from the setting an back, it should require no more then a little pressure to turn them, if they dont turn then chances are your needle channels are dirty, clean out your carb and and make sure your fuel inlet nipple is inline and fuel is flowing in cleanly.

I dismantle my carb everyday after use, cleaan carbs means less headache tunning.

Also like everyone else said check the brass washer.
