Hey guys,
I have been having crazy trouble with my EZ-Start so i (what i call) "upgraded" to a pull start and starting has been a breeze since... one problem tho... i have to loosen my glow plug about half a turn in order to start it... if i keep the GP tightened all the way the pull start is almost impossible to pull which i know means too much compression but i have no idea how to fix this problem... i talked to the guys at my LHS and they said that the GP's i was using were the right ones i was thinking if i got a shorter GP would that help or what else could be the problem... please advise :)
Thank You
Jared

It's a 3.3 and what/how many shims would I use I've never done anything with shimming an engine

woho, hold up before you start shimming the block, are you sure the gold bushing is on the glowplug? if it is try adding 1 or 2 more, make sure you still have "plenty" of threads on the glowplug so you don't strip the head... you should be in good shape

also how is your tune? are you running it really rich? you might also be getting too much fuel when you are trying to start it. this will cause it too.

Yea, my vote is a tad too much fuel on startup. If you are priming the car before you start it, cut the priming fuel down a bit, see how that works. :)

I'm with skwerly on this one. It sounds like your flooding it before you start it. I mean new engines are easier to start by loosening the plug a bit to back down the compression, then tightened back up once running. But an engine that has ran past break-in should still pull-start without this step. Sounds like your hydro-locking the engine which even with the loosened GP can cause tweaking of your con-rod.

So i prime by blowing into the back pressure tube until the gas hits the carb then go to start... i live in alaska also so its a little cold so i might be running a little rich... i'm not sure tho... what could i do to keep from hydrolocking my engine.
