I am relatively inexperienced to nitro cars. I have an OS .12 CVR now, but I am sick of having to use the bump start if it stalls or crashes. (back yard bashing only, I dont race). I am thinking of getting a pull start engine that will work with my existing setup and am not sure what is the best for my buck. OS .18 CV-RX pull start or the Fantom .18 pull start. I have read good things about both. My questions are:
Which will be the fastest and last the longest before rebuild?
Which will be the most reliable?
Easiest to find parts, rebuild costs, etc?

Any thoughts and insights are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Larry

can't you just get a pullstart for the .12? If you did get a new mill, Id go with the Os.

I could, but it would end up costing me about as much as a new engine. Tower hobbies quoted me about 95 bucks for the parts needed to add on a pull start.

I have had a few OS engines and they are great, fast and have a lot of power very reliable, the only down side to OS engines is that their replacement parts are expensive. some are not worth rebuilding. I think a P&S set is close to $70 plus the con-rod. But I still like OS engines.

Havent had a Fantom.

He would need the following to convert the engine from bump to pull:

Crankshaft
Startshaft
Backplate
Oneway Bearing
Pullstart Assembly

The overall cost would be cheaper if he found a blown pullstart version on ebay.

After dropping a big block (with even bigger amounts of power) into my rc10gt, i can say that you do not want all of the power you think you do. In my case, my GT is now on-road only, with the exception of a few runs with paddles (the only way i get traction on the dirt). I think the stock engine was perfect, although it could use a little more "oomph." After seeing the OS .18 cvrx, i can say that i would reccomend using that. I have gotten to drive a GT with one in it, and it put the power to the ground, but not so much that it is spinning everywhere when you hit the throttle (unless you can't control your trigger finger). Remember though, with more power, you will break more parts, especially drivetrain parts. I found that with the big blocks, the RRP steel spur gear i had chewed through clutch bells (yes, the hardend ones) within minutes. Will i ever get a steel spur gear again? Nope. The plastic one lasts me 1-2 gallons of run time, even with 3+hp. I'm just trying to give you a few pointers here...

Having owned an O.S. .18, I'd say go with that. It'll be more power than that truck will ever need.

Thanks Guys. I think I am going to go with the .18 CV-RX pullstart. It sounds like it should work fine and not be too much power to make it uncontrollable.
