Emergency what do you feed a (4-6weeks) baby ferret, I have no special food just what is found in the home.

They can eat stuff like that, I figured they need special food, I will try a few bits. Thanks

i had a ferret for 6 yrs and i feed him a mix of moist cat food and ferret food. If you check at wal mart they have ferret food there and its really cheap. Also if you go to fleet farm they have large rabbit cages for really cheap and you can make them all go together. Hope this helps John

Well, Here is my delema. I came home about a hour ago and found a ferret in my room, All my familey is gone and I am pretty sure it is my brothers g-friends but I am unable to get ahold of them. I have no clue what the hell they eat and I am not planing on keeping the ferret, but it was chewing on my jacket so i think it is hungry.

I gave it some mow mix and it is asleep, I just wasn't sure what they eat, All the websites I found say High Protien. That to me is steak and eggs, I am not going to feed this thing steak and eggs.

Thanks guys

Follow SuperMaxx's advise, but from what I understand, a high protien diet is needed.

They chew on everything, my buddy used to have a small bell tied to its neck so he could find it.

I've been told by friends that have them that cat food is a good substitute for them.

Sorry to come in late on this man - cat food is **not** good for a ferret, many people do this but it leads to malnutrition. It will get you through in the short run though. They will love you for a chopped up boiled egg (protein) - not fried, the saturated fats in cooking oils are bad - vegetables, and *small* portions of fruit - keep the sugars low. Grains are good too (oatmeal, wheat, nuts.) This is the largest content of ferret pellets.

By default they are not meat eaters, but will. They don't get what they need from meat-based foods. And yes we have one. :D

man them things sound like more work then taking care of my grandma back in the day....and hell she a ton of problems

Just a possibly dumb question, won't cats occassionally kill ferrets? Cats will hunt things equal to their size.

Depends on the cat. That, and ferrets tend to bite if threatened. Neices' boyfriend has a couple; they're known to beat cats up.

dodn't you find this out before you got the ferret?

Pretty sure that answers your question...

Thanks everyone, I gave it some mow mix, it went to sleep then they all came home and it went away.

Those little things are creepy and wierd, Although this little ferret was either very brave or very stupid. It wanted to play with my mom's monster cat, The cat was just as interested in it as the ferret was of him.

Do they always smell? I dont think I will ever get one, they do this wierd slinky walk thing that just creeps me out. Although I also have pet tarantulas so I guess I am wierd also.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I piss off my stepdaughter when I refer to her ferret as a rat with a really fat ass. :D

The're personable little critters though, somehow I thought they'd be more on the mean side. You walk down the hall and it chases after you, then flops on it's side and plays dead.

See stink comment above - our cat attempts to investigate then the ears go down and nose crunches up like "phew" - probably thinks it's more trouble than it would be worth.

Man, i had one, and had to get rid of it. They are the most stinken animals iv ever seen!
