Electronic question

So I have a set of rechargable AA batteries that are 1.2v each. If i was to use 8 of these in my controller it would be 9.6V as opposed to the 12V if i were to use regular 1.5v AA's. On the meter it says its fully charged, but when i take off the car takes off uncontrolablly then after a second or two regains control. The batteries are fresh in the car as well. Could it be cause of the rechargable batteries in the controler causing it to lose control? Any similar problems? I appreciate the feedback

Does this only happen when you use rechargable batts? What happends if you use regular Alkalines?

That is quite a voltage difference between the rechargables and the alkalines. As robriguez mentioned try the alkalines and see what happens.

What kind of radio are you using? Most likely the company makes a batter pack that will give the proper 12 volts but also the added convience of being able to charge it.

Instead of NiMn rechargable batteries use NiCd rechargable ones since they will have 1.5V. NiMn are only 1.2V as you mentioned.

I'd like to see documentation on that. I've never heard of there being a voltage difference between NiMh and NiCd. If you have both, just connect them to any cheap voltage meter and you'll see that they are the same...around 1.2v

Hmm.. for some odd reason i could have sworn NiCd had a higher voltage than NiMh... i mean, if they are the same Voltage afterall, why the heck would you want to buy NiCd then since NiMh are better.

But you are right.. they both run 1.2V

I would doubt that the batteries are the issue. I use 8 NiCd batts in all my transmitters and I have never had a problem with their performance. The thing that's odd is that the uncontrollable situation only lasts for a few seconds. I'd be looking at the tx or rx electronics rather than the batteries. And give the crystals a test, too....

Alright i havnt switched the batteries yet, I'm doing that later today, but i also forgot to mention that this only happens at high speeds... I'm fine just crusing around

If your servos go whacked only at full speed, I'd start looking hard for a glitch. Some things that can cause a glitch are metal rubbing against metal, or perhaps your antenna touching carbon fiber. Plug "glitch" or "glitching" into the search function. I know we've had many informative threads about it.

Alright guys... i put regular brand new batteries in, same problem. I checked out my antenna and it was pinched between a plastic and metal box. I fixed that and changed it so it wouldnt get pinched anymore.. still does it. I tried different places thinking it was some interference nearby, also no good. Does this with the engine on and off too. Is there a certain way the crystals go in or does polarity not matter? How can you test the crystals to see if they're still good. They're brand new i dont know why they'd call it quits so soon but I'm open to all suggestions at this point. Man I just wanna drive.....Gotta love this hobby though

So heres the deal...

My friend has the same radio as I do so i decided to steal.. i mean borrow his equiptment to see whats not working. After lots of trial an error It turned out to be my reciever that went. How odd, the radio is brand new. However I do now recall running through a nice big muddy puddle. Maybe this had somthing to do with it.
