I put 5 tanks through my Maxx yesterday breaking in a new .18 xtm engine. by the third tank the failsafe started kicking on.. I would flip the on/off switch on the truck and it would run again for a minute or less...then failsafe kicked on again. By the time I got to the fifth tank the failsafe was kicking on every few seconds... I got fed up and removed the failsafe. The batteries were new. I am wondering if there is a problem with my reciever?? mabye a short in a wire?? where the he$* should I start looking for the problem? I am lucky It did not run away. HELP! :hammer:

by the way... after I removed the failsafe it ran for a few seconds and then no response in steering or throttle...

I would have to say that it could be the bateries in the transmitter, but most likely you have a rx antnenna wire pinched or broken. I have had somthing simular happen to me and I found the antenna wire had been pinched when I had put the cover on, the wire did'nt look broke but it was on the inside. So I took apart the rx and soldered a new antenna wire in and it worked fine.

Sounds like the batteries were dead. They do not last long at all if you are running alkaline batteries. They only last about 4-5 tanks, so you got good usage, especially during break in.

I will look into these possabilities tues. night. got home too late tonight thanks guys I will let you know how it goes...

electro's

yeah it definately sounds like batts to me ,
i was running my maxx on saturday it was cold out and batteries do not like cold ,i charged mine before we left and in a matter of a 3 tanks the radio light was blinking and it would intermently kick in the failsafe
pain in the butt but alot better then a total runaway from staying wide open or something ,they get ugly quick like head on into a soda machine at wot
not pretty and spendy
but yeah sounded like batts to me ,get yourself some rechargeable AA's for the radio i just bought 8 duracell 1800mah nimh for 14 dollars off ebay
if you want the link lemme know and they also sell the chargers for them
just my :2cents:

Ditch the drycell batteries and get a 6v RX recargeable pack. or replace with new dry cell pack batteries. Failsafe will kick in when voltage on the RX pack is low or signal is low. Power seems to be the main issue here.

When a car is new, a lot of time is usually spent trying out the radio, and watching the steering, throttle and brake. Then there's the break in.
That's all the Rx batts will take, even less when it's cold. Too many cars have runaways during break in due to drained batts.
Get fresh batteries in the Rx, and put your failsafe back. It did what it was supposed to.

found the prob... throttle servo had two pinched wires exposing them and I beleive casing the short... I will get the servo back in and get a battery pack for the radio. this weekend will tell the tale. thanks for all the input it was all helpful.
