Ok I'm going to do it. Screw the 20 dollar POS servos. I want a NICE servo, for a decent enough price. Not too bad on the wallet. But I want something that let's me steer no matter what's going on. Idea's please?
HiTec has some damn good servos. Especially for the price. I run the HS 5645MG servo and love it. 168oz of torque with a 6volt pack. Dual ball bearring, 3 pole motor, metal gears and no centerring pod. Speed is .20 sec..
Sounds like an idea. I'm not sure if I need "that" much torque, just something that will help me take the tight turns on the local track. Anything with a bit more speed but with the excellent torque? I was thinking about this 33 dollar hitec "high torque/high speed" servo at the local shop. It had decent speed and nice torque. I'd like a mix between the two. It had 110 or so oz torque and .18 speed? Or was it .16? I don't remember. But it wasn't as fast as the "Ultra Speed" and not as powerful as the "Ultra Torque". I need to be agile!
Dual Rate - speed of throw at certain postions of the wheel. So when you make small turns you can set it to move really fast or really slow and when you turn the wheel all the way it can throw really fast or slow. Depends how you set it up. Helps a lot. Especially if you find the comfortable rate for the track you are on. prevents you from oversteer. So D/R with good EPA (end point adjustment) will get you around a track faster.
Well me and Christian talked for a while, and he told me some VERY interesting stuff. Specially about the NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) cell packs. He told me about some and showed me a few links. After talking I decided to research this more. I found that the idea could give up to 25% faster reaction times depending on the servo and reciever. And they ARE rechargable.
I was using batteries, and that I figured, will be a bashing only thing now. I'll buy a new servo for steering, and keep the traxxas one for bashing with batteries. I'll be looking into 5 cell packs for a bit. I'm leaning towards one that he showed me.
