Electrical Fire!

So today I was messing around with my gt2 getting ready to break it in. I charged the batteries and got everything squared up. Went into the garage and set up my stuff in order (OCD type of thing lol) and was on a mission the break this sucker in. I turned on my DX3 transmitter and then pluged in my battery to the on switch on the truck. I noticed smoke coming off the cables almost instantly and was like WTF! Then I went to unplug it as fast as I could and the wires were melting away, I burned my finger tips trying to unplug the connecters. I get them apart and the battery was frigin frying pan hot! I think I may have pluged in the connecter wrong but, I swear it was right. At this point I'm really bummed, I think I may have fried my brand new spectrum reciver. I tried plugging it in another battery sorce, straight into the reciver and couldnt get a movement out of it. Is this the fail safe mechanizim in it of do you guys think in the heat of things it could be fried for good. Is there any other way to test to see if its still ok or not? I'm kind of bummed, new battery pack, and maby a new reciver, and deffinattly a switch all burnt up. Darn! :constipat

Hey Man, the same exact thing happened to me with my Savage. I thought I fried the receiver, but it turned out that I only fried the switch. It's amazing, I only plugged the battery into the receiver for amillisecond and it was smoking. My problem was from putting the plug into the receiver the wrong way, so the polarity was wrong, and it sounds like that's exactly what happened to you. I don't know if all receivers are the same, but on most of mine I've learned that black goes to the outside.

Ya it was a costly mistake! 20 bucks for a new battery, and 10 for a new switch. Damn it all lol. This time I'm going to take a paint pen and mark each side of the plug when its in right, so you can see which side plugs in the correct way easyer. I think my reciver is ok though. I tested it with the new switch and battery and all seems fair.

Hey Bryson.. I did the same sort of thing with my Emaxx. I was changing out the Tamiya plugs on the Speedo and I just cut the ends off not paying attention to how it was wired. Turns out the two hot leads were crossed and I failed to see that. Well when I plugged everything in... instant smoke. Killed a battery pack but the brand new speedo, and Rx were ok. Like you... it cost me a battery... but the exspensive speedo was ok. glad to hear the Rx was ok as well.

Oh man if I would have fried my rx I would have been pissed lol. I took a paint pen and colored the plugs acording in the right direction so that way it will never happen again. Hopefully?!!! lol.
