electric trolling motors

ok i have an odd question, but there may be some on here with advice

my wife has a 14 foot sailboat & wants an electric trolling motor for geting away from shore & if the wind dies ....its a fairly light boat & id rather get her more than she needs than underpowered ...but i dont want to spend a lot on something she may not use much (she took it out once last year) christmas :shrug:

any recomendations?

Well i had a 30 pound boost trolling motor hooked up to our old 20 foot pontoon boat,and it moved it pretty good,wasn't fast by anymeans but it did the idea for trolling out on the lake,i would ask your local outdoor stores and see what they have to say.

I have a Minnkota one. Its light and protable. Ill see if I can find a link of the exact one I have, but it works great, and I like it alot. (I think I paid $60 for it, so it was pretty cheap)

I have a Minnkota on my 14 foot bass boat.
Get something that has a retractable mechanism so its not dragging in the water when under sail unless you want to use it for a rudder.

The power ratings on them only mean that you will get up to speed faster. Your not pushing a lot of weight so you don't need the Jumbo units. What I will suggest is getting the BEST / strongest / longest lasting Marine battery. If the battery goes dead, the motor is of no use. I have an RV battery for my boat and can troll the lake all day if needed, then more.

Make sure you buy and keep a spare prop and sheer pin on board at all times.

Mines the endura pro, but basically the same thing. Mine just has the hand controls which I like better and is less clutter. What is nice about it, is you can mount it anywhere on the boat. Front sides or rear, doesn't matter. I just have a 16" foot aluminum fishing boat and it pushes it well. (I usually have 2-4 people in the boat)

I can't remember exactly what I paid, But I know it wasn't over $100.
