Electric or Nitro?

Hi guys, this is my first time posting on here. I use to be a huge rc car guy back when i was little but with playing sports year around as i got older i let go of my hobby. Well, I'm starting it back up, pulled out all my old cars/trucks and I'm in the process of updating a few of them. I was wanting to buy a newer car/truck to update as well. I have all electric cars/trucks as of right now but i was wanting to get a nitro truck. One of my good friends told me not to buy one because they are too much to upkeep. What are your thoughts? Is a nitro car a good investment or should i stick with the electric?

If you are used to running hobby grade electric, going nitro is the next logical step. There is the complexity of breaking it in and tuning, but that is part of the fun.

The cars i run are the OLD stuff from 20 years ago. I am just looking for something that is faster and more up to date (technology wise). Also I am setting a budget for myself for purchasing one, only because i'm a tight wad. The max i want to spend on anything is $300, do you have any suggestions on a route i should take?

Upkeep, maintenance and upgrading are an enjoyable part of this hobby. Both electric and nitro are great. Don't sell yourself short by not having a nitro. In the 300 buck range, I would look at maybe a hpi firestorm or some other statium truck. Just a thought, I don't know what you're in to.

If you are looking at something to just plug-n-play, then electric is your best choice. However, if you like the realism of rc cars and looking for something that you can "tinker" with, upgrade, has that wow factor, etc., then definitely nitro.

As for nitro cars with your budget, I'd recommend something such as the Kyosho Inferno NEO or OFNA Ultra LX2. Just stay away from makes such as Exceed or RedCat. Those are money pits.

As for electric, I really can't speak to that much, but I do have a Losi Mini 8ight.

$300 will get you started with no problem! Of course I'm an associated fan so I say gooo Team A!! My suggestion would be a SC truck.

Let us know what you decide. As noted, don't be intimidated by nitro. If it's not your thing, than so be it. However, some people make tuning a nitro engine seem like splitting the atom. It's really not that difficult. There is a learning curve, of course. But every hobby has a learning curve, else it would not be a hobby. ;-)

Don't really have a set budget after the first purchase. I just wanted to get started with $300 and see what happens. I'm really in to anything that runs, looks nice, and is fairly quick. I appreciate all of your guys' input. Really helped me with my decision. When I find something to buy I'll put it on here and let you guys know!

I owned a few electric vehicles back in the day when I was younger. I loved them. Got out of the hobby when I hit high school.

2-3 months back I saw a guy in the park race his electric car. I got all amped again. This time though, I decided to go nitro.

Let me tell you, I really like it, no I LOVE it. I haven't had so much fun in the past 2/3 months. Yes, you repair and fiddle quite a bit, specially if you are still learning. Gosh, I went through 3 one way bearings already. Few spurs etc..

I feel owning Nitro can be called a hobby, as you do fiddle, tune etc far more than with an electric vehicle.

Choice is easy. If you're a petrol head, like getting your hands dirty, have plenty time and patience, go nitro. If you don't have the above, go electrical.

PS. I bought a savage x. Burnout if your budget, but if you decide to go above, look at the savage. What a tough truck, and let me tell you, I bash very hard

Nitro all the way !!!!! For my self I did start out with a nitro car , but with the car I found the kerb on the road used to eat my car up lol so then I got a off road truck 1/8 scale , the only thing I've had to buy for it was a new set of friction pegs and main spur gear ! I wouldn't have any think else !

If plug in an go is your thing then electric, but if you like to tune, then nitro, cause once you get it right nitro is its own reward.......ya I know the last parts a bit lame.
