I am on the verge of buying a Duratrax Street Force GP. I am wondering, Can the street Force run on grass with mods ie. tyres. If so what mods and where can I get them ?

pass on that car - i had one and it caused me nothing but problems. and to answer your question - NO.

If u must drive on dirt or grass - either look at a stadium truck, or one of the super rally's by HPI and Kyosho
 
I own a Street Force GP and I've been very pleased with it so far. A lot of people here bash ANYTHING made by Duratrax but I betcha 99% of them haven't ever driven a SFGP. It was affordable, and has the velocity .15 engine that kicks ass. It is hella fast, handles well once you tune in the suspension, and handles excellent once you ditch the stock tires.

The stock tires are crap, as is the McDonalds body but it is nice to run with to get warmed up to the car and not have to worry about. It isn't as "fragile" as everyone thinks either. I've only broken (1) front lower control arm and the front shock mount brace so far, and that was a really high speed collision with a solid curb...honestly, I'm amazed that was *all* I broke. Total cost to repair was $6. Make SURE your local hobbyshop stocks Duratrax parts for sure! I'm not trying to tell you to buy one, but I PERSONALLY own one and am happy with it. Opinions are like...well...anyways I wouldn't necessarily listen to someone rant about something they know nothing about other than reading how so-and-so doesn't like them.

This is my first Nitro touring car BTW.

xtensive - u might want to pull ur head out of ur u know where before u make a negative comment. I personally have owned the duratrax streetforce, many accessories by them, and driven the duratrax axis. the streetforce i owned had 2 gallons of fuel run through it before i sold it. u say that it is fast, that it handles well, that it doesn't break easily, yet u also mention that it is the only TC you have owned. What do u have to compare it to? If all u ever drove was a yugo, then u would think it was quick, and handled well, as u had never driven anything else. The streetforce engine, while reasonably quick, is a very poor performer. It does not hold a tune (although the 2 needle carb is a welcome addition for an entry level car), and it tends to over heat easily, even when properly broken in. The vehicle handles probably worse than any TC on the market. Its center of gravity is extremely high, and the cneter belt does not transfer power appropriatly to the front wheels. There are more things wrong with that car, than that of which are good. It lists everywhere for about 300 rtr. For that kind of money you could get an NTC3 rtr, and still have enough left over to get the two speed tranny. Along with that, although i am not a big fan of hpi but even the RS4 - 3 is a far better kit, with a much more efficent mill.
 
Well, first off, thanks for the kind words about my head and my ass. Really appreciate that. Second, this is a FORUM, where I was under the impression that opinions were welcome. Apparently if my opinion differs from yours I am a terrible person? I'm confused. We are talking about experiences right? You've had bad. Thanks for sharing. I have had good. Thanks for sharing. At least we have several senarios right?

My point was that I see a lot of Duratrax bashing from people that are just passing on info they have read, but have no real experience with a SFGP.

FYI, I have run several bottles through mine, and the Velocity .15 has never failed to start or run hot for that matter. I have had no problems whatsoever (except the little wreck I mentioned, but that is completely my fault). That is/was my point. I mentioned that this is my first Nitro RC for the very reason you brought up. I have experience with Nitro planes and Heli's, but this is my FIRST car so I didn't want to sound like I'd been into Nitro cars for a long time.

i just wasn't to keen on u inmplying that i didnt know what i was talking about. Alas - as u mentioned, this is your first nitro car, and even if it runs great, the speed handling, and other specs of the car are being judged against nothing but aircraft in your experience. As for the gerneralized duratrax bashing - it has a reason. Look around, about 8 of 10 people have had an unpleasent experience with the products they produce. If 10 out of 10 hated duratrax, they wouldnt be in business, so they ovbviously are able so build a decent product here or there. Point is - u cannot say it handles great (it doesn't) as u cannot compare it to anything. It may handle well in your mind, but trust me, its almost laughable.

I wanted to make sure this individual did not make the same mistake that many of us have in the past, by purchasing a low quality product without knowing any better.
 
I wasn't implying that you personally didn't know/have experience with the SFGP, but the other reply of "Duratrash" with no qualifier.

As for experience, you are correct. I don't have a ton, but I do go down to the touring races every week, and although I haven't actually reaced yet, I have setup tracks as close as I can to the ones that they race on every week, to try and see how well I do. After you ditch the stock tires and switch to foam, it handles as well as I can tell to the competition. The rear suspension is pretty loose from the factory, and the front is a little too stiff, but once you modify that it handles well (for me anyways). I would suspect that the reason people have said is doesn't handle well is because it has a lot of power, and if you don't drive it right, it gets out of control pretty quick. I definely noticed it accelerates faster than the various RS4's that race...not sure on the NTC3.

For the price it seemed like a winner ($250 from Tower hobbies).

I actually couldn't find anything negative about this car until I found this forum if you can believe that. I searched google,google groups, etc. and it got a lot of praise. The two biggies were the ones I already mentioned (Body, tires) and tuning in the suspension.

I'm gonna end it here - and say that although you may be happy, many of us were not, and although the vehicle looks as though it handles well, that is far from the truth. Please bear in mind that 90% of the time, when another vehicle accelerates quicker than the other - it is due to the driver and/or LSN setting s of the engine, rather than the mill itself. I am very happy that u are pleased with your SFGP, and i hope it continues to work well for u. I would still strongly discourage anyone on getting it however, due to the fact of my own experiences with it, as well as other duratax products, ie: a durtarx intellipeak charger, that after blowing 3 fuses in a week, was replaced by duratrax with a new one, which actually melted its own cables within a month.

Well you just had to go and drag me into this. I have parking lot raced against TC3s (great car imo) Duratrash (nuff said) and a few others with my RS4, I smoked the duratrash. I have driven them and would not give you a dime for one. If duratrash cars are beating hpis at your track, your track must have some pretty sad drivers. There is also next to no aftermarket support for them. For a few dollars more I would much rather see someone but an HPI or TC3 (which have a ton of aftermarket support), as opposed to getting totally discouraged with the hobby because they bought a crappy product first to save a few bucks.
 
finally someone else chimes in - thought i was gonna have to dissuade kyoultima all by myself.
 
Wow, did I just get dismissed? You guys should change the name of this forum to RS4/NTC3, as it is very apparent you do not want to hear anything positive about the SFGP. My appologies for bringing such a touchy subject to the surface.

we are not dismissing u, x - just two people who have had different experiences than u - as i said before - i am very happy that u are enjoying your SFGP, i just want to make sure that kyo knows that you are the exception to the rule.

research the threads that i posted when i first got here, and u will see some of the battles, and questions i had with my SFGP, also, check out my gallery, and u can see the streetforce i used to have, along with the mods i did to it.
 
Ok, I'm now thinking about a Duratrax Maximum ST Pro. I really want an off-road one and this is looking good. I currently have a Kyosho Ultima RB and there are NO hop ups for it. Is the Maximum ST Pro any good ?

offroad? stadium trucks: AE RC10GTRTR, Losi XXX-NT RTR, Traxxas Nitro Rustler. All are GREAT TRUCKS!!!! rustler is probably the best for jusr bashing, there is a reason the call it 'the brick'.
 
Its still a duratrax, all the same issues apply, no aftermarket support, poor quality, etc. If you want a stadium truck you might want to look into a AE RC10 GT or Losi XXXNT. Both of these trucks are far better than the duratrax, they will cost a little more up front but you won't have a $250 paperweight in a few weeks. Just ask NoviceRob of his experiences with Duratrax. Check with your local hobby shop and see what they carry alot of parts for. With off road you will break more parts than you would with a street car, and nothing sucks more than waiting around for a part to be ordered.

Xtensive, no you did not get dismissed at all. As you mentioned you are indeed entitled to your opinion as are the rest of us. Several of us have had experience with Duratrax and have not been the least bit impressed to put it nicely. If you are enjoying your duratrax thats GREAT! I hope it works great for you. Personally I will never buy a Duratrax product. Please continue to post your honest feelings in any of the forums here, that is what makes this a great forum, everyone is allowed to have and voice their opinions. Just don't get angry if other members disagree with you and tell you why.

nitronewbie, the Rustler earned its nick name "brick" because that's what it handles like. A fast ass brick, lol
 
Dont forget about the brick, NCNitro - although I am partial to the RC10GT that I own, the response from the owners of bricks seems to be very pleasent. I think it would be a great entry level basher!
