Has anyone here ever built a dune buggy. I am looking at building on this year but not quite sure where to start. If anyone has some good advise or previous experience i would love to hear from you. I was thinking of using an old VW bug frame and engine but not having any real luck finding one:\ Any suggestions would be great. I am in saskatchewan canada so freight will definately be an issue lol.

If your talking about a real one most bugs are in calif or mexico go on the web and try to find cosworth chassie company if there still aroun they made kick ass buggy chassies.:D

Ok thanks. Ya I am looking at building a real one. I have always wanted to and I think that this summer I will have some extra time so I am going to give it a try.

Keep your eye out in local ads where you live. I've had 4 buddy's over the years who have all gotten dune buggy rolling chassis' for free! People always lost interest and wanted them gone.

i started building one when i was 15 took me 3 years to build, was just a single seater but had a 600cc engine and box from a yamaha and went like poop of a shovel. was always tempted to build a full size road legal one using the running gear from a mid-engined car like a mr2

I have been looking around and it is very hard to find the old VW frames anymore. I had hoped to find one and therefore make the build easier since it is my first project of this nature. I have been looking at some dune buggy kits but dont know if that would really make it an easier build or not. I guess I will keep researching and looking into this. :\ I was hoping to get by with approx $700.00 because i get all my steel free but its looking like that number might be the low end so not sure if the budget will stretch. lol

In my one post to you i said cosworth chassie i appologize i meant chentworth its been so long sense i 've been around them i forgot. Wish i still owned my chassie shop i could hook you right up but it's about 30yrs to late sorry.:\

Thanks for the info. I will check them out. I am still trying to decide if I should just get a wrecked smaller SUV and go for it on that or do the real sand rail.

Go with the real deal or you wont be happy learned a long time ago wait and get what you want otherwise settling for less is like putting ur nuts in vice.:p:

I have found a chassis but the guy wants like 1500.00 for chassis only. Supposedly the motor runs and tranny is ok but it all needs to be gone through and checked to make sure.:( In my mind thats about 1000 or so to high :whhooo:
