Yeah, I'll get a bunch of crap from this post...

That Tennessee hillbilly will give me a lot of grief. :p:

Took some trash off the other day. The guy next to me sets off a Pioneer stereo in front of the bin. You know, trash that may be good?
No speakers, so I'm not looking hard.

I already unloaded my truck, but I'm looking.....
Next thing I know he is putting a miter saw out.

I had to ask what was wrong with it.

Good saw, but he couldn't get the base to move.
I worked on it today. He must have had it in a basement or left it in his truck. Took it apart today and it's just like new!
Base is turning. The blade doesn't even have the paint rubbed off of it. I've been using it for about 3 hours.

I'm not much for throwing something away if I think I can fix it.
This is the first thing I ever got for free and it's pretty sweet!

I usually look around, and thought about somethings. Amazing what some people will throw away.
So what have ya brought home?
 
Dumpster diving was my favorite sport when I lived in Kansas. All the college kids would throw out great stuff so they wouldn't have to drag it home. They all knew that mommy and daddy would replace it.....
 
I go with my friend on junk days and we usually have good luck. Last year I scored a Milwaukee sawzall the power cord was bad. And he got a snow blower 2 stage that had the keys broke.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.
 
Nothing wrong with that Digger!....I was just taking the dog out for a walk the other night and a guy was putting a Sony home sub-woofer out on the curb to throw away. I just in passing asked if he had blew it up and he said nope kids filled it up with legos and now it is ruined. I told him he could open it up real easy and he said it has special bolts you can't take out. So I said wow that is too bad and on the way back I was curious and looked at the SPECIAL bolts were 6mm allen head. Oh like I have NONE of those around right?...lol. So I carry it home and open it up. Pulled out 32 legos and it works great. Not top of the line but it's about a $200-ish sub. I love people who have no mechanical inclination.

i think the best i got was a 4ft tall jewelry box. It is solid wood and really nice. two swing out side doors, a top with mirror and like 8 drawers. My girl loves it!!

the second was a set of stainless cooking bowls by wolfgang puck, and 2 large gumbo pots with lids.

I've gotten some other smaller stuff, but I'm still looking for that big score.
 
Nice score Digger, and the others too, nothing wrong with a little dumpster diving. I learned it from my old man when I was a kid, and I've done my fair share too. In your case though, wouldn't it be dumpster digging?:D

I used to go to the local landfill in New York whenever I cleaned out my garage, and I ALWAYS came home with more than I left with. On a couple of occasions I traded junk with another guy off loading. :hehe:
I used to repair electronics, so through the years I came home with several TVs, a trash compactor, Rosignol skis, a self propelled lawn mower, 2 riders, a worm drive concrete saw, a McCulloch chain saw, and I don't remember what else.
Every one of them ended up in my working inventory, and some were traded amongst friends for other items.

Special bolts? That is killer. Guess he never saw an allen wrench.

I would be scared to bring that home. 'Ol lady would be expecting me to fill it up. :hehe:
 
I'm not sure what it is, but its solid wood. no particle board crap..

it was a pretty funny story though, i saw it on my way home from work in front of this townhouse that the people were moving out of.

When i got home, i asked her if she saw it on her way home and she said no. we got in the car and drove over there, (less then a block) i rolled up beside it, she rolls down the window half way and looks at it, turns to me and says "do it". i jump out, throw it in the trunk and haul butt.

we have slowly been filling it up..

When I was a kid (seems like centuries ago), my grandmother used to take us to the landfill which the family jokingly referred to as the exchange club. She almost always came home with more than she left. She even managed to come home once with a copper bathtub.
 
Hey i got to say once i clicked on this thread it was not what i expected either, i tell you what, not a lot of dumpsters in my area, but we have a dump, and as a kid we built our bicycles out of there, i have a generator in the yard someone threw away, took about 10 bucks to fix, tool boxes, tires for my jeep back when i had it, grills, lawnmowers, back in the day, we would dig stuff like that out of the dump, clean the carb and watch it go like new, or replace the 10dollar part that the person did not know it needed, and sell it, seen mopeds and go karts come out of a dump, I've seen digi camera's found in dumpsters, as well as a freakin iphone, the iphone was not in the dumpster but behind it, it was clean and brand new not even a phone number in it, works fine don't ask me i don't know its story i was blown away, one mans trash is another mans treasure hands down seen it happen for years it is quite amazing, but they say everything happens for a reason, i bet dude could have used a saw, like i need a generator haha...:)

Not only the most recent award, also the most important.

The main thing to remember with being a "true hillbilly" is....

The really flat roadkill has been there for a while. It may "plump when ya cook it." (Like one of those ball park franks.)







But no matter how much BBQ sauce ya put on it, it's still gonna taste funny. :whhooo:
 
Years ago I worked for the local solid waste, we were in charge of all the trash....I found a ton of crap working there! Hell just the scrap iron I sold was like having a second job. We had a crazy amount of weed whackers, lawn mowers, mower engines, and bicycles.

Off topic a little bit, but back in the day when I used to work at Sears we had 2-3 guys that always came in about once a week during the spring and summer months. They would go to yard sales and auctions and find used Craftsmen tools, buy them regardless of condition and then come by the store and replace them for brand new.

Craftsmen warranty allows you to trade in the tools at anytime and for any reason. I could only imagine how big their tool box at home must be.
