YAY....I just finished my drift car. The chassis is a tamiya tt-01 and the body is the rally style ford escort(with some decals) painted dark blue. everything is stock so far exept the radio and tires which are pvc that i cut and mounted on the rims. I can post pics of it when i get my camera running. I also have a question to anybody that has experience with drift cars, "Is it better to buy yokomo(or some other brand) drift tires or stick with pvc?" and also if i were to buy some drift tires what is the best type of compound to buy, like which kinds produces the best drifts?

PVC on rear and foams on front...try it if you just want that Ass hangin out style driving....the yokomo ringed tires blow....off the rim that is....when they wear down they get snatched off the tire and all of a sudden you are gripping on the road.....

From my experience of just running PVC pipes, it won't make much of a difference what chassis you run. I mean, there isn't any real suspension setup you can do, it's just sliding the car around.

Ok i got my camera up and runnin and i got a pic of my drifter

hey oldcars, I have a tt-01 chassis drifter as well.... it is a lot of fun. I would recommend ABS Pipe, it is a PVC pipe that is black, and is a bit softer creating a bit more realistic drift.

I do not have any places that sell abs around here except in 10ft lengths, so I use PVC on all 4's. To get your drifting good, you have to get a decent esc. Otherwise you wont be able to accelerate real fast.... Any more questions?

No but i think if you go to home depot you can get the pipe cut, I'm not 100% on that though. Do you just put tape around the rim and then press the pipe on or do you glue them on? If you do glue them on what glue do you use? thanks

what I do is take the rims i am going to use, and wrap both sides of the rim about 2-3 times with electrical tape and then fit the pipe over it. You want enough tape on the rim so that it is fairly hard to get on. I end up putting my whole body weight to get them on... You want it to be on there very securly, so if you drift on a cement road, the pipe doesn't come off the rims. So if the pipe goes on really easy, take it off and put more tape on the rim, until you have a nice snug fit... LMK with any other questions, hope that helps

Oldcars just buy a set of pipe cutters...they're like 6bucks...if you are going to be doing this alot you'll need em.....sometimes the PVC lasts a while but mostly I get a day out of the set if I run it alot....redhat good suggestion I was using glue and then DA soaking them until the PVC would just pull off....

Never understood the point of drifting, Rc's or 1:1.. Kinda a fad type of thing, considering drifting has been around since theres been cars, but now since the ricer scene, its gotten huge.. Like I said, I dont understand the point..

I dont really either but its fun as hell to do in a 1:1 lol. Every winter I find a huge parking lot and see how far I can keep my truck going sideways. But I'm not out burning the tires off in a day that is what I dont understand, I guess if I had sponsors willing to pay me to burn up there tires in there car I would want to go do it too!

yeah its fun, but I just can't seem to see why its a big deal all of a sudden, and how they can try to make a whole sport of it.. I dunno..I'm lost with it..lol.. Thats a cool lookin Rc though

Come drive on a Mn. highway in the winter.. Its one big drift session..

Like some people know I have a auto club here in Mn. and there are a few guys that are big into the drifting and do the whole track drifting. I've rode with them before and have watched it numerous times, and yeah, its cool, But I just can't see why its such a big deal and why all of a sudden something so small as your rear end swinging around and you steer thru it, has become blown up so big.. And I will NEVER understand why a person would drop MUCHO bucks into there car, to set it up just for that..

Yeah no kidding, I would rather spend the moeny to make a car handle better and be faster! It would be cool to have a Rc Drift car though, I like coming out of a corner with my Rc,s and sliding it sideways :). I never knew that you could use pcv pipe for tires, that seems really weird to me lol, but a lot cheaper then toasting a new pair of tires evertime you run it.

yea, I dont know why I do it. I first heard of it when I played NFSU then I started watching vids, and started drifting RC's this year...

I'm going to home depot today I think i might check out the ABS pipe but if i have to buy it in like a 10ft section ill stick with my pvc. I havent run my car in like a week and i just went out and fooled around, but i noticed that the pipes kept slipping off the rim. i think they expanded or sompin.

PPL post pics of your difters(if you got em) i just wanna see what ppl are doing with their drifters. :)

You could glue them but when it comes time to replace the pvc it its probly easier just to tape the rim and press them on. I was wondering what kind of glue you whould use for it but I think the tape is easier.
