Ok, so the department decided to go a little cheap on the units when ordering. The cars have power locks, but no keyless entry. So i can hit the button in the car and doors will lock/unlock, but to get into the car, i have to put the key in the door. Its straight up annoying. 2009 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. What do i need to do to make this thing keyless entry?

The fob is a little remote for unlocking the doors. You would probably have to get some kind of aftermarket device, as the factory unit needs an eye (usually in the dash) to function, among other things. I'm sure the car has wiring for it, but it's probably alot more involved than one would think. I'm sure there are aftermarket units available for a reasonable price.

Yea, i know i could always throw in an aftermarket system, but i doubt the department would be happy if i added it. lol. Having the only remote start unit in the fleet of about 3500 vehicles would be pretty cool though.

Yeah I hear ya. I guess you'd have to contact a dealer to know for sure. My old 98 monte carlo has a unit under the rear seat and an eye in the dash plus who knows what else, just for the door locks.

Alpine,
I used to install car audio and security before I moved into home theater/automation. You said the car already has power door locks which is a step in the right direction, you will not need to add actuators. The factory actuators are controlled by a relay pack. This relay pack is then triggered by the switch inside on the door. For remote lock/unlock you will need an aftermarket keyless entry system. They are inexpensive and very easy to install, usually only 4 connections ( power, ground, lock trigger & unlock trigger) You could also have the dealer install the OEM system but it will surely be very expensive. If you go the aftermarket route I recommend a DEI (Directed Electronics) product, they have several brandnames.

Wow, good to know the guys that protect us are getting treated well, that's lame. So they saved what, $100 a unit by not getting keyless entry? Hell, even my econo crap box had keyless entry, standard. That's ridiculous alpine, how do they expect you to hold doughnuts and coffee and still have a free hand for the stupid key? :D

I can't believe that you don't have keyless entry. Some meat head that sits behind a desk allday must have ordered them that way. They pry would be mad if you alter the car. My boss was pist when I moved my bins all around in my van but it works better for me.

If it came with the setup and you got the fob, it would also turn the alarm on and off and open the trunk.
Find out if the system has been factory installed. Maybe you'll just need the fob.
Stop by an auto stereo/alarm store and see if it's in the car.

I looked online and it said how to program a remote. Put the key in the ignition an turn it on and off 8 time in' under 10 sec, and the locks should cycle. Mine didn't, so I'm guessing the system isn't there. Sucks. It's bull poop that when we make an arrest, or get a hot call, or anything we have to put our detainee on the rear of the car, unlock the front door with the key, press the unlock button on the inside of the door, them go back to the detainee (if he hasn't run away by now) and open the back door to put him in. Instead of just approaching the car and pressing a button on tour belt. $75,000 for each car (lights, mdt, radar, cages..... Etc) and they don't splurge for the keyless entry is just crap. I under stand even a basic radio with no cd player or anything, (even though we are in these things at least 12 hrs a day), but this is ridiculous.

We could always "borrow" the boombox from the Mods' lounge for you, Alpine. I also don't understand why they can't re-use some of the equipment on a new car, like the radio, mdt, siren/PA, etc.

I think you should pimp you're ride - remote start, complete stereo update with dvd player and xbox 360, tint the windows, maybe add some neons underneath. Oh and add larger RCNT decals to the size of the car... now that would be pimping. :D

Being the primary department in the state its kinda of given that we donate our old units to smaller departments. Radio's are constantly being upgraded, and the radar's and MDT's are individually assigned to each officer, not cars. So we take them from unit to unit with us when we get new ones. Lights/sirens/pa's n such usually go with the car.

Viper alarms have good system's IMO. I have the viper alarm system on my truck with, key less entry, remote start, window breakegde, and if a person gets close to the truck for more then 5min the alarm will automaticly go off. And if anything happens I'm alerted through the remote on my key chain.

Are the flame throwers for those loitering around your ride optional with the Viper?

It hounestly is over kill but its never gone off etheir so i dont worry about it. I have had people break out a window befor, and thats why i made sure this system had the window breakegde option.
