I've never had a virus on my computer before so i dont know what its like but most recently my computer has been acting really dum. say when i shut it down it stays on the screen that says "windows is shutting down" or something like that and it wont turn off. and even before that when i hit shut down it takes a long time just to go to that screen it will just have a blank screen for a few seconds. Loding up Aol isnt too much fun neither.. so from all this can you guys say if i have a virus or not?are there any programs out there to download for free to kick the virus (if i have one)?

so all i need is a spyware take away program? i downloaded spybot search and destroy a while back but when i tried to open it it said it was some type of fatal error or something. i always used spysweepers free trial.... i swear if my brohter didn't have his "important files" i would blow the harddrive and start fresh... I'm gonna try to see what this spybot thing says now i couldn't even open it to install after i dowloaded it.

Try downloading spybot again.

Also, if you are running the latest AOL or broadband, you will have spyware and virus software built-in. Click on the Safety link. It is better than nothing.

i downloaded spysweeper and I'm now running it. can one of you guys point me in how to delete temporary internet files? thanks again... just need to get rid of temporary internet files because spysweeper is just breezing across like a million of them!

spysweeper is good, i just ran that and recovered 12 spyware and 921 cases of it... just wow, wtf haha. i couldnt log onto the internet a few minutes ago b/c internet optimizer was loading on the bottom left hand corner of the internet window. so the page froze and turned white. run spysweeper. lemme know how many spyware you got hahaha, it has to be alot. later

Open Windows Explorer. Then click the + next to the Windows folder. Go to the bottom. Temporary Internet files. A lot of stuff will open if you haven't done it befor. Click on Edit at the top of the screen, click 'Select All', they will highlight. Then go to "File" then choose 'Delete". Do the same with the Cookies folder farther up.
Empty your recycle bin. You'll have to re-enter some of your passwords, since they go in the temp files. That's the only time I enter mine here, after cleaning out the files.
By the way, always clean out these folders before running Spyware programs or virus scans or defrags. It slows the programs when the have to scan all that useless stuff.

rolex I'm blonde... is wtf i never seen a windows explorer in my life.. where that? also the shut down thing is still there and the computers still slow shutting down what could it be?

Fridge open up your user controll panel..there you will see an icon that says internet options click on that.At the next window it will give you the option to delet cookies and temp intrenet files

ok buncrana will od but i need to finish deleting all these temporary internet files its taking forever.

For Windows Explorer:
Click Start....Program files.....find Windows Explorer.....right click it......set a shortcut on your desk top.
Go to desktop, double click the icon, when it opens, click 'View' then in the drop down menu click 'view as web page' (or leave it if 'view as web page already has a check mark in front of it) then follow my instructions above.
I have the icon on the desk top since I access Windows explorer regularly for finding .jpg files.
