I have this idea. I want to build a 24 scale mud racer and this one looks perfect with its 2 speed tranny and fast speeds.
But in my studying I noticed how light the thing is and frankly how light the aftermarket is for these things.
Are there ways to add weight? Does the scx24, or trx4 stuff fit? Like wheels and hex extenders?
How's the reliability?
Any help anyone can give me would be much appreciated
Cheers

@TeknoJ has one. I'm thinking I remember they more closely resemble FMS stuff as far as drivetrain goes?

I do have one. Places like amain have some replacement parts but I haven’t seen any weight adders like brass n such. What you could do is add some brass wheels for weight down low. Some 40-ish mm injora shocks would be good too, the stock plastic ones are oil filled.
The chassis is somewhat limited to the battery provided, and I don’t like that the battery only has a balance plug.

Ok.. good to know. So dumb question maybe.. if the injora wheels fit, then the hex extenders and wheel weights will work too, right?

I have not tried to use the scx24 hex extenders on this ucx24. From what I can tell, the HobbyPlus axles use the same wheel nuts so the axle shaft is the same thread and bigger than scx24, the ucx24 is already wider than my widened scx24, the ucx24 goes more places than the scx24(on my course). Theres tons of potential here, the U4 cage however seems to be the norm with a heavy cage instead of a lexan body. Its no LCG rig. My scx24, hobbyplus CR18P, and the ucx24 all use the available 1.0" wheel and tire combos I have on hand, so the best upgrade for the snow leopard out of the box would have to be a set of aluminum beadlocks(or brass if you prefer) and your choice of tire. Shock springs are pretty good, but some Aluminum shocks would be cool too. The HobbyPlus big bores from a CR18P EVO would work, or some Injora stuff in the 40-45mm range.
I have not had a good chance to test more wheels, tires, or just plain drive it to death because my son snapped a front axle shaft. I found them on Amain though. I had some brass wheels on and I truly believe that with the 2 speed, the brass is too much rotating mass at that speed, I mean these things are ZIPPY in 2nd gear!

You could get a reamer and ream them out. Trying to open up a hole with a drill bit isn't going to keep it on center, because the center point of the drill bit dies that. A reamer will follow the hole.

Also if you use hex extenders you need a longer threaded nut that is the right size for the axle. The further you come out the longer the nut has to be to work. You might try looking at the trx4m stuff to see if it has the right size axles. It would save you some work.

Yep, all of my concerns with drilling out a hex extender was just said.
FWIW, the snow leopard is a good deal wider than my widened scx24. I think that keeping this ucx24 light is the key to success. Wheels n tires and maybe some shocks. I haven’t noticed the stock shocks leak yet. It definitely needs a lower tooth pinion I just haven’t sourced one.

In your opinion, do you think it could handle the heavy 1.3 wheels and tires from injora?
The axles at amain... are they stock or beefed up aftermarket ones?

They are stock axles, I dont see any aftermarket stuff for this platform yet.
I think the 1.0 wheels are perfect with larger tires. The new 1.1 size that seems to be kicking around would be great. I can't remember if it was 1.3 or 1.2 sized stuff that came on my HobbyPlus Trail Hunter but, those fit as well. It will fit the bigger tires. Be warned, this thing doesn't need heavy wheels or alot of weight, I beleive the brass wheels I put on it may have led to the axle's demise. When my son drives stuff, its already flirting with disaster 😅

Lol... thanks bud. For all the info
I didn’t clarify why I think it doesn’t need heavy brass wheels; it’s because how fast this thing can go. I just feel like too heavy of wheels is too much rotating mass, this thing is real fast in 2nd gear and a little too fast in the low gear. A drop in pinion gear would be great, I just don’t know what pitch it is! Aluminum wheels would be fine I’m sure.
So just get one already and help me figure out some mods.

We were able to find hub extenders? I've been looking all over the place myself
I got my offset from the wheels, hex extenders aren’t really necessary unless you want more noticeable wobble at the wheels.
