um, actually, they probably wouldn't beat a corvette in the 1/4 unless you had an s15 motor in it, and even then i'd still bet on the vette.

And you know, 240's would get owned on a large road course by vettes...but then again, the vettes would get owned by 240's in autocross, so it really all depends on what kind of racing it is. But then again, if you did strictly just an engine swap, you'd probably get owned anywhere cuz i'll bet the 240 has some poop for stock suspension.

Personally, i'd take a Turbo Mr2 over an 240 with an S15...can't beat mid-engine technology.
As far as huge road course races go with big names and stuff, yeah I'm sure they'll get owned when its pro drivers and huge money between a 4cyc turbo and a 8cyc TT. I'm talking around town. Majority of most peoplw ith corvettes couldnt drive them to save their life. My dad has a corvette and poop a brick when I hit 5k in it. a S14/15 engine will own a regular vette with a ordinary dirver easy. I'm not even gonna go back into anthony's 99 Si witht he Integra Type R Swao and Skunk2 cam shafts and such or his random ass GSX, thats bored over .40, new pistons rods and nice big T28 killa....they both eat corvettes alive.....

Well they better be 11-12 second cars. Corvettes aren't slow.

Just because you're old and drive a corvette doesn't mean you can't drive. There was a guy in his 60's Autocrossing and he was good...and yeah he was old.

There's a lot of people that are smart and actually don't race their cars even though the car's fast. And usually when you're 50+ years old, you've matured past street racing (I hope)

And I don't know if you know this, but everytime you drive your car hard, you're putting wear on the car and the life of the car is getting less and less, ever thought about that? Maybe they don't drive their cars hard because they ACTUALLY care about their cars and prefer longevity.

I didnt say everyone.....lol.....I've seen some old guys build 5.6 (1/8th) cars. I'm just saying most are like that.

My dads 91 corvette was killed by a B18C5 in a Si(Integ Type R Engine, cams, programmed ECU, and exhaust) when that car hit 9,400RPMs and finally shifted to 3rd...me and my dad were about a car and a half behind.

Corvettes are not slow at all, but more show than go I believe...and personally I don't like driving them...bumpy ridE! I think it is because they didnt ahve enough room int he back for a full size suspsesion or something,t hats what they said at the Corvette plant in Kentucky at the feild trip.

Um actually, the current generation corvettes pull a full lateral G in turns now. I think their suspension is pretty good for a street setup.

And 91 corvettes are only like 250hp...so yeah that would make sense for a civic to have a chance.

But seriously, you're generalizing ALL corvette drivers saying that they can't drive and n/a imports are the greatest most fastest thing EVER. When that's so far from the truth.

thank god i live next to laguna seca and i can get track tim for free almost all the time
i got a classic mustang thatll kick ur car in the 1/4 and at Laguna or sears point\
i think supras and subaru wrx stis are the best japanese cars to come to america

No, No,No, your taking me all wrong here.

The corvettes I HAVE dorve i said werent the best ride because of bumpy, I have yet to drive or rode in a 2000 or up.

I'm not saying ALL corvette owners are like that, i said "some" and "most"(maybe a that was too much)

As far as N/A imports......a nicely built N/A screams....I love turbos and that wonderfull "ppppshhhhhhhh" noise as the next but they are just "dnno queens", fast ones none the less, not saying that, lol. I dunno it's weird between N/A and Turbo becaus eturbo is load dependent. It's prolly just a person thing between the two, the only thing I know is, i dont like SCs on 4cyclinders

Why are you challenging me, lol. The imports I have spoke of have been friends of mine, as I do not have piston or turbo money. But sure you wanna come to AL, we'll find nice sets of curves and I'll bet on that Si all day long.....even more thats its a road race.....FWD, Civic Type R suspension, yeha I'll be betting on it

What kind of "classic" mustage are you talking about. Classics are the only good ones other than the 4.8 Cobra S/C

Knew a young guy in my town, had a nicely built up Bronco II.
One day coming home from getting new tires put on, going about 75mph on the highway the rear tires that where the wrong size popped off the seal, he lost control flipping the bronco 12 times and coming to a stop resting on its roof.
He was out within 30 seconds and had a sore shoulder from the belt.
He told me he didnt think he was going to make it after he realized it first rolled.
He's damn lucky that truck was built strong.
Sued the company, and bought another Bronco II.

I am very sorry for your friend. I hate to say it this way but teenagers and cars are a potential for disaster. Look at the statistics for teens and car accidents. There's a reason their insurance rates are so high. I know some of the younger members and visitors will not heed this warning but I will say don't drive like a maniac and your chances are greatly increased of making it into your 20s.

i can't help if it i drive fast and do it well
j/k i actully try not to drive too fast cause you can f@#4 urself up that way and it could be a felony if u go over a 100 in CA

I think it's a genetic problem with testosterone and horse power. We should ALL be thankful we made it this far when we can all relate to some of the stupidity we went through with our cars.
I'm guilty myself, but what made me realize that there are reasons for speed limits was when my sister was killed by a 19 year old doing over 100 on his motorcycle. He died too, and the two friends he just blew past watched it.
If you are new to driving, DON'T become the example that your friends learn from.

Rolex very well put.

This thread started with a tragic story, then bounced back and forth between tragedies and talk about fast cars. SEE ? Some people just don't get it. If you love high powered cars (and who doesn't) run them at a track, not on the street.
Kids don't run out on the track during events, and there are no side streets either. No curves you can't handle, and no blind dips or hills. If you like to race on the streets and choose to ignore speed limits, you're on borrowed time, and so is that innocent person you can't avoid.
