I have a second hand OS 21RG, I was going to take it apart to cut off the pullstart pin so I can put in a nonpull plate but I came into a problem, half the heatsink screw heads are stripped (prev owner must've used wrong size hex). I have a drill set designed to remove stripped heads, however the heads are too small and difficult to drill a hole into. Any suggestions?

If an extractor isn't going to work you will need to use drill bit that is a tad larger than the head of the screw. be careful and remove the head of the screws and gently pull the head off over the screw shaft. Once this is done hope that there is enough of the screw shaft left to grab with a vise grips.

If your not accident prone heat the block up in the oven or with a paint stripper gun to expand the block and make it easier to get out. Dint burn yourself.

That did the trick, drilled slightly larger than the head and tried stripped screw drill and worked, now all I need to do is find 2 screws to replace (and a backplate screw too). Got my nonpull backplate on!

No, the screws came right out, fortunately they weren't that tight. Thanks again.

Did it damage the screw seats on the head.
Just trying to gain some knowledge here.

I was told that after having to drill the heads off the screws that you should use a flat washer on the next set you install. The washer should be just a tad bit larger than the head of the screw. if the head got concaved from the drill bit this will help from cracking the head when you tighten them up.

The heads didn't come off the screws, just drilled enough for the strip sscrew drill to grip on but the screws are now useless which I need to replace now. I also heard about that advice before, the holes on the heatsink are untouched. But I might get a Nova Race head to replace.

My father had to drill off a few heads before on his Losi cars, and are a pain to remove the screw afterwards and can leave a mess on the screw hole he drills through.

On a side note, for those who has an RG-X and want to convert to non-pull, getting rid of the pin is a pain, I used a dremel with a cutting wheel to cut it off then a grinding wheel to flatten it, took me about 14 dremel sessions to get it right flat so it doesn't scrape against the backplate, there's only so much clearence between the connecting rod and backplate.
