I'm rebuilding my diff with aluminum outer and inner casings. When assembling, do I really need to have a gasket (old one is torn), or can I use silicone to seal it? Thanks.

well I'm not for sure but i did that on my 8th scale and it worked out great you just have to make sure you dont put too much silocone or you can lock up the diff (i did it once) hope this helps you out

It will leak out over time. Some say the fluid used in the Revo is so thick you don't really need it but it does heat up and thin out a little. Having the gasket in there is gonna ensure the fluid stays put so your not leaking it out and having to rebuild every race weekend.

The gasket not only creates a seal, but it creates the proper shimming for the spider gears. Without it, the diff will bind and not spin freely. I'd suggest using the torn gasket and put silicon sealant on it to keep the seal.

Well let us know how it works out...just wondering how well they seal up. I may use the aluminum outters one day but not sure on the inners.

Well, I think you've convinced me. I'm going to get some seals. It makes a lot of sense about the problems that can occur without using a gasket, and would occur if I didn't use a gasket. Is there any place that sells the gaskets? Thanks for your help!

You will still run into the same kind of gear mesh problem inside the diff. Depending on the brand, some diff seals are 1mm thick or so. That would make a significant difference in gear mesh if you used RTV or liquid gasket maker as you would end up with less than 1mm.

I have rebuilt my savy diffs and didnt use the gaskets. I've put about 8-9 tanks through the truck no problems yet. Before putting the diffs in the truck i cheaked the for binding there was none. Although I'm sure different trucks are different regaurding the thickness of the gasket. They are cheap i proly should have put them in. but no problems yet
