hello i keep breaking this gear:http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHGF2&P=7
the one there on the right is this just a weak link in the revo and should i buy another brand instead of the stock traxxas one? or is there any thing i can do to stop breaking them?
i also have one more question when i opened my diff case it had kind of a black scum on the inside i guess this is the oil leaking from the inner case if it is what is the stock oil and is there any thing i can do to stop them from leaking? thanks!!!
 
There's little blue orings that go on the outdrives, you can get them in the rebuild kit. You also will need dif fluid, from the factory they don't come with squat but they say it's 30K. The stock ring gear is fine, just rebuild your difs the right way and put a little synthetic grease on the ring gear when you put it back in

How do you keep breaking the ring/pinion? Do you mean your stripping the gears out?

I've been running my revo for over a year and it still has the original diffs. I ran about 3 gallons with the 2.5R, 4 gallons with the 18TM and half a gallon with an OS 21RG.

I used to blow those gears when I had a t-maxx...

not so much stripping but kind of breaking as in a entire tooth will just fall off

Hey Scoob,

You sure your case is not warped?Are your bearings still good? That is an awfully big shuck off!! What about shimming the diff? Takes a lot to get a WHOLE chunk like that to break off.

make sure there are no left over pieces from previous breaks in there. if another piece of metal gets between the two gears thats what will happen

hey jon,
hmm no i don't think the case is warped not that i can tell the bearings seem ok maybe the need cleaned a little though not really sure how or where to shim the diff if the bearings would need cleaned should i just replace them or soak them in something?

mostly 2.5R barely got to run the os18tm before i had to return it the tech support guy said he though i may have a defective sleeve and piston all stock gearing and yea i think the slipper is set ok

and to sly yea thanks to you to i check for left over pieces and there was none when i put the first back together thanks though!
 
nope I've only broke 2 the rear and the front so what ever they had on them is what was on them when they broke
 
just an idea you may wanna check your out drives "dog bones drive shafts" if they are not true straight the will tear up your diffs:beer:
 
Revo does not have dog bones, the out drive is different. It would be hard to bend something that short. I'm going to say your slipper is probably too tight and also check to make sure the dif is shimmed properly in the case.

ok thanks still not sure how to shim the diff though
 
Get some ofna shims, they are very thin and come in a kit. With the dif sitting in the bulkheadmake sure there's no play, if there is place a shim inbetween the bearing and the bulkhead. Also make sure your mesh between the ring gear and drive gear is good and that you don't need to shim there as well.
