Well, after much deliberation, my son decided to give up the NETRA circuit and give rc racing a shot. After he decided, I told him I would give him the money I was spending on entry fees to the NETRA races for the 1st 3 races. Forty bucks a shot plus gas to haul the bike and gear and my Ram 2500 Mega cab as far as 200 miles away. He liked that. Me too. He understands that he would never be good at NETRA racing he just really likes doing it which is why we did it for 4 years now. He normally comes in toward the rear but has a blast. He's afraid of crashing and getting hurt. His friend ALWAYS comes in 1st because he's missing that fear chip in his head. When they do a wave start, where like 30 bikes all take off at once and 50 yards down field they need to be single file and take a 90* turn, I've watched my son and this other kid. My son keeps looking side to side and slows if he thinks he's going to crash. This other kid's head never moves. He focuses on that turn and goes wide open. If your in his way then your going down. I explained to my son that there's nothing wrong with him. He doesn't want to get hurt. But he will never beat these kids with no fear.
Now with rc racing....he can't get hurt except in the wallet. He loved standing up there in the stand and having his truck fueled for him and righted after a flip. Just drive. That's it. At least on race day. And I can take him there on my bike instead of the truck!!!

That's good news :) Now he can just ride the bike for fun and you get to watch him enjoy a new kind of racing and save some $$$. And you can always take him to open track days for some track time now and then.

Great! :D Maybe he'll get so good that the ROAR nationals will start to look promising :D Well I wish him and you luck on the prospect. Make sure he gives you at least 40% if he wins a race

I'm so glad to hear that. I know how much I enjoyed anything automotive when I was woung, and when I was 14 I got surprised with my own hot rod to restore, a 68 Chevy pickup (which is the exact year and model that I had decided I wanted about a year before). I hope you guys enjoy many great years together while racing. Just to let you know, times will be tough sometimes as he gets older, and you will be slinging wrenches at each other I'm sure. But even the worst day together beats the best day apart.

That's great, and I know you guys will have fun racing together. Now he might enjoy riding even more though when he's not competing and he can relax. Fear is a good thing to have though, it will probably serve him well later in life and keep him from doing something foolish. Make sure to post up vids though, I want to see him beat you haha.
