When the batteries go dead in the truck will the truck act funny and not respond well? The thing was revving on its own, and would not respond to the radio. Also at half throttle the engine kinda sputters a little, but as soon as you hit wot it takes off smooth as silk. And there is a small trail of smoke at wot. How can you tell if the lsn is running lean or rich?

Yes.

The first sign of your batts getting weak is your brakes will start to lose their power. Next your steering will not function very well. The throttle is the last thing to go since it requires the reast amount of battery current.

Get a failsafe before your truck ends up running away from you.

The best way to know IMO is when u hit the trottle the truck should launch forward with little or no hesitation and their should be a nice stream of blue smoke. If your truck shoots of the line like a bullet and their is no or very little smoke then it is to lean. and if your truck is sluggish off the line and their is lots of smoke then it is to rich. U have to find that perfect balence for the lsn.

if it is a little hesitant when its cold but seems to do fine once the engine has warmed up does this mean that it is on the ritch side of perfection??

Well you will never get your engine to perfection but it may come close.
Always do your testing and tunning afetr the engine has heated up. so if it is cold out give the engine a few min to warm up and go from their
