Sorry but this is me just blowing my top and it isn't well typed. I haven't done anything in essay form or article type thing in a long dang time. :\

Well... today me, wife and the kids went to a well known hardware store to get our 7th, yes 7th mail box.:angry::angry:
Why you ask 7th (if you are)?
Well lets just say, through the years sense I started working for the local cable company I have had my mail box hit a few times with objects until late it had been plastic bottles, fast food bags full of weighted pooh or the infamous base ball bat. Now it is Yoohoo bottles because we bought a plastic mail box that can handle the impact of the other stuff. But if hit with a glass bottle or bat? Poof!!! Big hole. Well we looked on line for solutions and yes many people had some wingdingers that we were about to try.
One was getting two different size mail boxes. Fit the smaller one inside the larger one, take off the door of the smaller one and fill the space between the two with cement. Man that would be awesome except people don't realize that if it ain't certified by Postmaster General, there is a possible liability there. Yes I know I know, most of you are saying "well I know so 'n so welded one out of metal and never had any problems". But you see. I have the dark cloud that follows me when it comes to things like that lol. And I would be the one person that got it in the end and wasn't the last one laughing.
Any ways, getting back to the hard ware store. We bought a vandal resistant (they can't say proof or there will be complaints) mail box. It's 28lbs and tough. It was pure hell mounting the dang thing but I hope it works... and yes it is certified or I don't think the store could sell 'em.

I just want to leave this rant with one last thing to say. If any of you young'uns out there are doing things like this, then I hope you get the same thing back to you in some other form. I never did this in my youth and now I suffer cuz some punk @$$ thinks it's fun to grieve the cable guy.

I have thoughts that come through my mind at times that I can hear them saying things like "yeah lets take this guys mail box out! hell he makes too much money and he's the reason why cable is too damn expensive!"
First of all, I live in a 1250 square foot home and if it weren't a little help from relatives, 12 years ago, I wouldn't be living there. So no... I do not make a lot of money. The people that do? Probably live in neighborhoods that have security patrols and streets where you can't gain 45+ mhp to hurl some object at a mail box and get away with it! And no, I have yet to report to police. Why? Because where I live. There's not much they can do if they can't catch the person doing it red handed.

Man that sucks! I never had that kind of trouble when I did cable, just the opposite actually. I hope the HD mail box works.

I have to be honest here....A long time ago I was one of those kids. They always have one house that they will continue to visit and the harder the home owner tries to stop it the more determined they become. You need to catch them in the act, maybe something like a game camera might help??? These cameras have a motion sensor and only work when something is in it's view.

Hmmm.... that could work but... I was thinking more along the lines of putting one of these in the bushes. :D

I have never done mailbox Baseball. I did have my mail box hit by a car once, its gotta dent in it and thats about it, the pole just kinda bent and put it back up and its good to go....By the way I have a Black mailbox with Silver flames...kinda surprised no one has stolen it

We had the same problem. So we filled the mailbox up with bricks, sat in the bushes with a paintball gun and waited. We didn't even have to use the paintball gun. The guys were in a truck, and when the guy in the fron seat hit the mailbox with a bat he screamed in pain, the bat recoiled and broke the back window, hitting someone in the head. We heard him scream, glass break, and then they pulled over and we saw everyone get out. A neighbor later told us what happened. Turns out the bat struck the guy in the head and he had to get stiches. We promptly removed the bricks and had a cold beer (this was back when I was young and drank).

I also had someone vandalize my truck just because they were drunk and stupid. I have always had severe hatred for anyone that thinks it cute to key a car, slash a tire, etc... I think it's nothing but coward, and I would prefer you harm me before doing damage to one of my trucks. Anyway, the guy busted the windows out of it. He really screwed up, because I was really serious into the hot rod scene and knew the owners of several body shops. I pressed charges and the police told me to get two estimates and they would prosecute. The guy who did it had a record already. It cost me about $900 to get the windows replaced. I got estimates totaling $12,000 and gave them to the district attorney. The guy had the option of signing a pre trial intervention and paying full restitution, or going to trial. I heard my windows being busted and tried to shoot the perp with a shotgun, leaving some hols in his tailgate. This actually turned out to be good evidence in my case, and the guys chose the PTI. I have been receiving payments of $400 a month from him for years. That will teach the sorry SOB poop for brains no good bastard to break my windows.

Oh such sweet vindication I assume. :hehe:

A couple months ago somebody kept hitting my house with eggs so I let it be known to the neighbor hood kids I will be waiting and the first car to come by that I see someones arm come out the window passing my house they are getting a brick thru their windshield. I placed 3 bricks on my porch railing, It never happen again. I can tell you many other stories of my putting the fear of god into the neighbor hood kids.

I can't believe people actually do this. I don't see the fun in it honestly. Thankfully i have a street light located in my yard and a cop that lives 2 doors down.

I would probably get something like what you mentioned. A 20-30Lb vandal-proof mailbox.

There is an easier way to stop all those idiots; a sign that reads "This mailbox is under close circuit monitoring". Add in FAKE security cameras, and you got it made.

One of my inlaws lives on a country road they had some troubles with mail box baseball players. I was up for a weekend when I heard about all the troubles they were having. friday night there box got taken out while I was there, it's loud when a bat hits that box lol. Well saturday early we went and got a new box from the only hardware store in town. On the way back I spot a small rail yard off the side of the road and ask if we can stop in to check it out.

Well we stop and i get to talking with some of the guys working there I see they have quite a pile of old rail ties just rusting away on the ground. So I'm telling them what is going on at the house and ask if I could get 3 or 4 pieces of rail from them. Long story made short they say sure even cut them to 8ft for us and load them in the truck.

We get back to the house his wife hears the plan drops a load yap yap yap and we start digging. 4 holes 3ft deep 2 on either side of the box about a foot away from it. We get the guy next door (about a mile away) to help and we set the rails into the holes and back fill them.

That was 12 years ago he still has the same mail box today that we got that saturady. Now i dont know where you live but I know there is always something that can be made from steel that is not touching or inclosing the box to make dumb shits think twice. If you think the people next door will bitch use 4in pipe weld 1/4in plate to it then paint a nice picture on it to make then happy.

One better, put real cameras. Federal Offence caught on video camera usually holds good in court, especially if you cite the receipts for ALL mailboxes you've had to replace in the past and lay it ALL on the person caught on tape by saying, well it happens so often we figured it was the same guy. Sure enough, we caught him on tape. End of story. Never hurts to have video running anyway...you might catch bigfoot or something.

We had one taken out, several years back. We got some money for a new one, because we filed a a report with the sheriff's office. An hour or two later, the kids were caught, still trashing mailboxes a mile or so away.

You might also try putting the mail box in a brick and mortar enclosure , hit that with a bat and the bats gonna bounce off or break either way your mail box should be just fine, I also like the idea of putting a video camera and catching the little $#!+$ in the act...

Now that's freakin Justice!!!! GRRRRRR!!!

Well I have set up the mailbox like I said yesterday and it is made of steel. The only thing I need to do now is get another steel bracket about 4 inches long with a hole on each end to stabilize it. The metal stand I bought doesn't seem to hold it up too well.
Oh and one more thing, it looks like something has hit it all ready on the side. Not sure what it was but it only left a mark of what ever it was and didn't even chip the black paint. It looked like it might have been a rock but not sure.

By the sounds of it, it's someone that knows your schedule.

Now, here's a good question for you; the damage, is it always from the same direction?

Is there any chance you found the bat that flew out of my hands?
If so, I was wondering if I could stop by and get it back. It's a classic Ted Williams model, Louisville Slugger.

Yup... they be coming from one direction all da' time.

LMAO! :hehe:

How about a piece of steel re bar hammered into the ground about 7 ft long place it about a foot out from mailbox. When they swing should catch them somewhere between the wrist and the elbow, Ohhh that's gotta hurt. I mean just imagine driving along with your arm out the window and smacking a pole.
