Cutting Off!!

my friend has a revo its like a week and a half old. broke it in and we ran it for a while and it cut off. it would run for awhile and just cut off....wtf? now when he punches it it bogs out and dies... i wanna help him with his truck what are the factory settings or the settings you guys are using? it would be a big help i just wanna help a friend...

If it's boging on the hole shot, your LSN is too rich. Lean it out 1/8 of a turn. Repeat till it performs well. Do the pinch test also. If it takes over 3-5 secs to turn off while pinching the fuel line, you're too rich. If it cuts off right away, you're too lean.

If the truck cuts off after a high speed run or gurggles at the higher RPM's, your HSN is too lean. Richen it up a little bit.

As far as the factory settings for that 2.5, check the manual that came with the truck. Just keep in mind that those settings are for breking in the truck. YOu'll still have to retune. Those settings just give you a baseline from where to start.

its like a week old i dont think it would b the LSN yet cause it is so new and he shouldn't of even messed with that yet. Diver6127 is right it should b the HSN is to lean, i have the REVO as well, and had the same problem, after about 2 high speed runs it would cut off, i richened my HSn a total of a 1/2.it runs fine now it just needs to shift sooner. i would also get a TEMP GUN. i keep a very carefull eye on the temp i havent let MY REVO get over 244.highest it got was 251 and i shut it off immediately!

I had the same problem and it was the LSN being too rich. The book does not give factory settings for the needles. I found these somewhere:
4 turns out on the HSN
LSN flush with housing
I've found that the LSN settings are really sensitive with this engine.

The factory needle settings are ALWAYS on the rich side. After the break in both needles need to be tweaked for performance.

My old trx 2.5 used to like to run 280 tunned as good as it got. What it sounds like is he might be having break in blues. How much fuel is through the engine? If you find he is tuned right, maybe try a new glow plug, you will be amazed what a new plug will do, especially if he is using the stock plug that he broke it in with. The TRX 2.5 engine seemed to like McCoy MC59's

Well said. I'm the guy that ends up doing all the tweaking on engines at the LSH, and it seems to be the rule with all of them. You break them in, re-tune them, then they seem to go through a 'stubborn period' for several tanks, then they finally tune and stay. Break in blues. I'll have to remember that.

Are you taking temp readings and doing the pinch test? If so, what are you getting?

I ran an MC-59 for a while and it did some to run better but I came across a pretty good deal on a bunch of Traxxas plugs so I couldn't pass it up. I should just sell them and go back to the McCoy because it did seem to perform better.
