An hourly labor rate is relevant when you figure out how much your time is worth. If it takes you 7 hours to paint your truck, and you have $40 in material, you end up with a $175.00 body.

OK, so if he has $40 in material, and charges $175 for said body, that's $19.285 a hour for 7 hours of "labor", that's just rediculous, ofcoarse just my opinion, but that's just me, I don't like to give away my hard earned money...........

The theory is that you can pay someone else $19.00 an hour to do it, so you can go off to your executive job at $100 an hour.

Anyway... I'm gonna let Supermaxx97 give it a go..

Here's what were aiming for.... Something similar anyway.. I'll post some pics.

I think your $18 and change for whatever you do is rediculous also.:trout:

I sell painted bodies usually in the 50-80 range and can pop out 3-4 in a day in my spare time. Depends, I like painting bodies and it goes along with both of my businesses. Depends on what you think someones time is worth and what they think it is worth also.

Hey good for you, want a winky button? Atleast you have a reasonable price range, I'll give you that much :smoke: but......ummm I think I'm going to just stop right now, because this thread is getting a little out of hand, so my appologies if I offended anyone.........if you have the cash to put out for one of those nice $175 bodies cool, but there are some of us who don't so we fortunitly have guys that are just as talented but are not charging such a high fee for quality work.

I don't want it to get out of hand, just trying to make you see why some people charge that much.

Honestly guys getting 50-80 a body are doing it more because they enjoy it, those that charge the $19 a hour like that one body are doing it more as a job.

The funny part is both of those sites are almost sold out of what they had just 2 days ago. So, people must think they are worth it. The big show season is coming up in March, so people are getting ready early.

Yea I suppopse you are right, I didn't even think of show comp's..........sorry for being such an ass

i am going to start charging only like $70 at max because i do it for fun, i am only 15 but it is a little start towards a real job.

I recently bought a painted Avalanche from BradFox2. He is about 16 or 17, and he did a great job for $40.00, with me providing the body. I did an American themed flag type. I couldn't have done such a good job myself, so it was well worth it.

I already used it for bashing, and it looks great running down the street. I'll have to post pictures next weekend.

Brian, good luck with your painting. My business started the same way, just for fun. Now my wife thinks I am always out playing with my toys, when I should be "working". You gotta do testing though!!!

ya, well candyman got me wanting to airbrush. he did a sweet body for me(i would post it but i dont know how to get it on here). i have always done really good jobs on my bodys with spray paint, but couldnt do the things i wanted. so now i am getting and airbrush for christmas! now i can finally do the thigns i want.

i am also going to go and sell them on ebay too along with custom orders.

the whole reason for this is too have fun, also make some money so i can get my real car!

Nice work bro...

THe wife of the guy that works @ the LHS that I love does awesome custom work. I've seen her bodies in magazines and @ RC car shows. She charges around 30 for a Truck body or 1/10 touring and I have her paint most of my bodies.

I've seen some bad ass customs for sale on Ebay but many getting rediculous in price. Then I c some awesome deals from time to time (as is E-bay). My buddy bought a custom painted Ferrari Enzo body new on Ebay for $40.....it's looks freaking awesome.
