FOr those of you who have seen my rs4 equiped with a .21bb, I'm sure you noticed that the pipe extends further than the width of the chassis. Right now it is the only thing that is really in the way of me putting my lid on.

I need a shorter pipe. I have looked around and can't seem to find one that will fit under the lid. So I think I'm going to try to make a shorter pipe with the same volum as the pipe I am using now.

If I were to make a shorter pipe, but wider so that it would fit, would I get the same or close performance?

the shape and length of your pipe has alot to do with performance ... you will change your performance ... somewhere there was a video that showed how a pipe works ... and by shortening the pipe i believe you would take away from your low end ... and get more high end ...

I'm sure there i some crazy way it works and all but i dont see how changing length of diameter differs the low or high end. Seems as long as you kept the same volume it would ahve same effect. Someone please explain, I'm all ears

I would like someone who has more info on "dimensions changing the performance" to post also!

I'm curious:smart:

El Pirata is a good person to ask about custom pipes he made one for one of his kanais.

the shorter and fatter gives you more top end
longer slimer gives you more low end..
at least thats what i under stand about it

maybe you should try to get a shop to make you a differtn exhaust header that points the pipe in a direction that is less obstructive

Actually I dont think it was a completely custom one, If I'm not mistaken, him and error used one from a .46(not sure on size) heli pipe on either a K1 or K3.

The reasons behind changing length and or thickness is due to the rebound of the exhaust gasses. When you have a pipe that is long and thin. the gas travels down and rebounds off the end, then comes back and that is what gives us the little bit of back pressure that we need to run these engines. If you have a pipe that is short and fat, the gas does not rebound as well. The reason is that it has to fill such a large cavity. I know that you said you would keep the same volume, but I due believe that that will not matter. I am going to research this alot and I will post anything else that I find

I have 2 different pipes I have run on the anti christ and only one on my k-3. The two that I mentioned for the ac one was a .46 helo pipe that Error and I modified. The other was an Ofna pipe that I shortened about an inch and a half. The other pipe is a THS on my K-3. I honestly can decide which I like better between the threeas all of them rock as is.

If you want any info on Pipes call Rick Ritter http://www.rittercycle.com/ he has a wealth of knowledge and was the one who suggested a shorter fatter pipe for my sirios.

I Think this is 100% correct.

I am really going for all out topend. This car is for getting mph and nothing else. Everytime I turn it, it spins out, flips, tumbles, carthwheels, and everything else that cost more money. (I lost a dogbone and broke a shock this weekend taking turns with a buddy). What if I just shortened the pipe? Would I loose a lot of bottom end?
