Hey all. Just curious as to the info about crawling. What I really want to know is how often do you need to replace parts? My hobby shop does not carry axial, if that is the best choice for the beginer. Also, what is the best choice for a beginer? I was thinking the rtr. I also need to know what the best mods are. I'm sure I will have more questions but I am done for now. I look foreward to your replies.

P.S What does brown writing of your name mean?

you ar enot hte only thinking about going crawling. i was talking to Brandon today and we BOTH typed Axial at the same time !! i heard that the artr (almost ready to rip) was the best deal, due to the hop ups included with the kit. i am researching it now ... and may even be selling off my hopped up 8ight buggy to get into it !!

Yep me and bobby were just talking about this. Oh the brown in the name is a sponsor i believe. (east end machining)

The Axial kit/artr are the best way to get started. You can upgrade constantly with thousands of upgrade parts from many different vendors. It is the ultimate tests of skill to perfect your RC control.
I run my crawler hard as hell, and i have never broken any parts to date. Very very durable little machines.

oh IC. So what is the best to start out? Ireally would like to get into rock crawling. and there is a few rock piles around here where all the farmers dump their rocks, so terain is not an issue. We also have one in our yard. I would like to know EVERYTHING about it. What tires are best... everything. Its good to see lots of people getting into it. What do you guys think about the 1/18 scale mini rock crawler by losi?

Sorry alpine beat me to the post.

To get info, read through the posts in the crawler section, and it will tell anything you need to know, if you have any specific questions, post them there.

yeah read through some of the threads in the crawler section. teh artr axial is pretty cool, kinda wish it was out when i got mine. beings that its "almost" ready to run u will need the electronics as in motor, servo, esc, reciever....but thats almost cooler cuz then u can pick out what exactly you want for electronics instead of getting stuck with something that u dont want and having to upgrade. tire wise, the losi claws are awesome tires, i ran m2 hammers wich imo are also very good but the claws seem to grab better on all rock serfaces. on breaking parts, i broke a knuckle once, and i think thats about it. oh and i broke the out drives of my tranny too. if u have any more questions feel free to pm one of us crawlers if u need more help.

I got the kit, before the artr came out, but I would have gotten it anyway because i loved the build.

Thread moved to the crawler section.

i agree, the axial is the best way to go. the kit and the artr are both excellent platforms to start with. you can compete pretty much stock with them, and theres a shitload of aftermarket stuff that will bling the thing, or improve performance as well.

exactly, and more and more stuff comes out all the time for performance on the axials.

I *really* like tinkering so I went with the kit over the ARTR, even though I knew I needed to buy more hop-up parts. The build is easy enough to do and really great fun, there's very few things I know more satisfying than seeing your very own truck grow up out of piles of spur frames, screws and bits of metal, all packed neatly in 1000s of little plastic bags. If you are not so hot on building then get the ARTR instead. All you need extra is a decent ESC (I recommend a Castle Creations Sidewinder), crawler motor (I recommend you check out Holmes Hobbies), servo (I used a Tower Pro MG995) and radio set (take you're pick). Also remember you don't need a massive mAh battery on a crawler. The draw very little current compared to a race truck. A good 40-50mins of light crawling on my mini course can be had from a 1100 mAh lithium based battery.

Once you have it set up the way you like in stock format, get used to driving it and how it drives, where stuff doesn't quite work right, then go looking for mods and hop-ups that address these issues. *Don't* buy tons of hop-ups and slap them all on. You'll end up with a mess, and you'll fuse your brain trying to work out what you did wrong. Add things a bit at a time and see what happens. Crawling is a very delicate balancing act, and even a minor change can make your rig behave very differently.

That's how I started out, and I'm progressing pretty well so far. I have a nice rig that's fun to drive, I can tinker and adjust it, and it's pretty durable. I have yet to (knock on wood) break anything on it so far. That may change if I get a really nice crawler motor from HH though. All that torque running through it can cause it to mechanically adjust it's transmission :)

yeah the Holmes Hobby motors are great, I'm running a 35t and its got alot of power, plenty of torque but still really good wheel speed too. one thing to also consider is getting some saddle pack batteries so u dont have that big stick pach setting up on top trying to make u roll over.

hmm, so where is a good place to window shop (for now) for batteries, Great info guys. I'm thinking ARTR because it comes with a few hopups standard, right? also because i can pick my electronics and get the ones I want. I like tinkering, but I think ARTR. I am doing good so far?

ya man, u get the just of it. where are u planning on buying it from? good chance that u can get a saddle pack batterie from the same place. lipo is cool but i would suggest waiting unless u have a bunch of money to throw on this, because u will need the lipo, charger, and balancer wich is pricey.

do they have axial? i couldnt find any.

no they don't. But thats alright, right? I mean i will order it off the axial site. unless sombody is willing to sell theirs. haha i wouldn't either. and from there, they are good guys whom I am good friends with, so they can probably hook me up with something good.
