My nephew just purchased a Cen NX.15 engine. He's trying to figure the best way to cut the crank down he needs clearance for the crank to clear his trans. What's a good method to do so? y the way it's the strangest engine I have come across, It's a .15 but Cen considers it a Big block. Has a Big block exhaust outlet but a very small cooling head. The block is larger than my Picco.21 engines along with the piston and sleeve.

the last time I cut a crank was on and RC10GT and it was an Ofna .12. I used a dremel tool with a cut off wheel. You used to could buy .12 engines with different styles of crank shafts I don't remember all the details we are talking the early to mid 90's. I remember wrapping the engine in a dishtowel and ziploc bag and poking the crank through the bag so I could cut it and keep from getting shavings into the engine.

When I had to cut cranks, I would mount the flywheel and normal nut, make a mark on the crank, take the flywheel off, screw the normal nut on completely to clean/straighten the threads while taking the nut off after cutting. Put the engine in a baggie and poke a hole through the baggie with the crankshaft so no shavings get in the bearings or engine, then chop it off with a dremel cut off wheel. Then take the nut off to straighten the threads back out.
