Correct Op Temp

Whats the best running temp for a engine, I've been tuning and for a while it would run about 130 degrees, but i adjusted the high end, and it would run fast as hell, but about 230 degrees. I believe its a .16 engine from exceed rc hyper speed awd buggy. been trying to tune it so it uses let gas, as in less gas is spit out threw exhaust...:\

trying to be, i use a lazer temp gauge that I used for hydrolics. I wasn't sure what the temp should be, but I know when I tune that HSP that thing goes faster then I could keep up with lol. I'm pretty new to the sport of NItro R/c, I went from large engine to small, and now to smaller lol. So I should be in the 230 range then...good, ill be outside running another test n tune then...I'm sure my neighbers hate me....

Temp should always just be used as a guideline. Ask yourself these questions:

Do you have good acceleration from a dead stop with no hiccups or sputtering throughout the RPM Range?

Do you have a good smoke trail every time you exit a corner or get off and back on the throttle?

Is the engine idling properly?

...and finally....

Is the engine temp under 280 degrees? (Note this number is purposely high as EVERY engine is different, but generally as you approach 300 it's bad all around)

it takes a few seconds from pulling the trigger to it taking off...as far as smoke, can't tell...i know when it idels it spits fuel out of the exhaust.

If you can't tell if any smoke is coming out....you are too lean or using a fuel with hardly any oil in it. The puff of blue smoke should be obvious every time you go from off throttle to on throttle.

If it is taking a few seconds to take off when you pull the trigger...what is the engine doing during these few seconds? Is it having a hard time revving up? Does it sound like it's stuttering? Does a ton of raw fuel come out the exhaust pipe when you attempt to accelerate?

How does the motor sound once you get past the few seconds after pulling the trigger? If you do a high speed pass up and down the road/track/parking lot does the engine sound good when it gets up to speed and pull pretty well?
